Facebook preaching, should I call it? (that sounds wrong :\ )

So i decide to put this as my status:

‎"O people of the Scripture! Do not exaggerate in your religion, nor utter anything concerning God save the truth. The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only a messenger of God, and His word which He conveyed unto Mary, and a spirit from Him. So believe in God and His messengers, and do not say 'Three'. Desist, it will be better for you. God is only One God. The Messiah would never have scorned to be a slave of God." Surah al-Nisa, 171-2

And next thing I know, my Christian friend changes her status to:

‎"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." (Isa 9:6)

And I thought lol! And i had this urge to put up every other ayah that mentioned something similar to the first but decided against that because I didn't want to over do it with the same message. Also some really are against Christians e.g

From those, too, who call themselves Christians, We did take a covenant, but they forgot a good part of the message that was sent them: so we estranged them, with enmity and hatred between the one and the other, to the day of judgment. And soon will Allah show them what it is they have done.

Anyway, I then felt like using a quote from the Bible - one that shows Jesus (AS) saying he is not God. But someone goes it would be better to use a quote which is a prophecy for the coming of Muhammad (SAW).

So I did.

But in between all that, I felt bad cuz I felt like I would be offending people. But then I thought "I'm spreading the truth though"

Was it ok to do that? Or was it wrong?

depends on the respond from your friend.
did they change their status again? are you having a religion showdown through status on fb? 😛

i think, just remember why you posted your first ayah. that intention, it wasnt for anyone really was it? just keep it like that for the other ones.

act dumb. it saves a lot of trouble. (oh..should i make this my new sig?)

I don't get it :/ Do you think people will randomly think 'I'm following the wrong religion" ?
Or are you just generally against the approach of "preaching" used? Like cuz its all in your face - I think thats annoying but like on FB its easily avoidable - unlike if it was some person actually talking to you. Although its still kinda wrong, I think. (yes I know I still do it :/ lol)

Keep doing it even if just an expression of yourself.

If people set religious statuses too, don't see it as a challenge.

Besides you do need to sometimes tell people the truth. Not sure what the best way is - I am not a very preachy person.

Salaam

Kind of what You said. Did you do it to express yourself or to as a religious sentiment.

If it was the first, maybe keep doing it. If it was the second, maybe think of the ayah "Oh People of the Book let us speak of a common word between us."

In general, when it comes to religion, I would say avoid conflict. When it comes to being you, truthfulness is good, benevolence is higher.
