Homosexuality...Umm... Is it really that big a deal?

Last week, one of my friends came to congratulate me for the wedding. Then, he (Liam) says “*sigh* Isha, you’re so young, and you’ve found someone! And, look at me, I’m getting older and I have no’ one,”(he’s homosexual, by the way.) (And, he is really getting old; going on 27. )So I ask him whether I can find him someone; he agrees. Quite odd, but the only guy friends I have are homosexual(, I don’t have any straight guy friends, and nor would I want to…)So, he agrees and I note down his preferences and find him someone. They hit it off, and they get along well. Everything is good. And they both thank me, and when I’m alone Liam thanks me and tells me ’what a great friend I am‘. I’m happy, because he’s happy. He tells me ‘God bless you, you’ve done a good deed’. God is most definitely not going to bless me; it’s not a good deed. They’re atheists; they don’t believe in God, so should I really panic, about it? I didn’t think it was really that big deal. I can’t say “stop!“, because, they love each other. It’s not any of my business. Also, I was the one to get them together. Is it really that big a deal. I personally don’t see homosexuality to be 100% a sin. So, was I right to do that?

I was just wondering is homosexuality allowed.....but it isn't. I was just wondering were there any exceptions. But, clearly I'm going a bit....psycho.

The prophet Lut was sent to a group of people who were infamous for their depraved behavior. The men of the community were known for having sex with other men. Anyone with even a cursory knowledge of Arabic can tell that these verses are talking about men who engaged in consensual sex with other men, eschewing the women who were created for them. Rape is simply not an issue. To suggest that the angels were raped is completely false. The angels were under Allah's divine protection. In fact, when prophet Lut expressed his fear that he couldn't protect his guests from the depraved men of his community, the guests responded that they were angels in disguise and that no harm would befall them. Allah Most High says, "And when Our Messengers came to Lut, he was grieved on their account, and felt himself powerless (to protect) them: but they said: Fear thou not, nor grieve: we are (here) to save thee and thy following, except thy wife: she is of those who lag behind." (Al-Ankabut, 29:33).

I didn't say that they were raped - just that was the intention of the inhabitants of the place.

That would only be an issue if the question was if any homosexuality taken place was consentual or not. Since they were protected by God that is a moot point and the above refutation lacks weight in this issue as it is refuting not what has been suggested.

The intention to rape is however easy to ascertain from those verses.

Since the angels were protected and were not involved in any sexual activity, is that your position too? But for homosexuality instead of rape?

You're also assuming that this behaviour occurred for the very first time. The people were know for this along with murdering nd robbing travelers.

Usually Allah doesnt punish for just one sin, but because the people have just pushed it too far, so i guess its a culmunation of all those sins, no point arguing about this.

Yes, I am assuming like I always assume.

In Surat al-'Araf, verses 80-81, Allah Most High says, "We also (sent) Lut: He said to his people: "Do ye commit lewdness such as no people in creation (ever) committed before you? For ye practise your lusts on men in preference to women : ye are indeed a people transgressing beyond bounds."

According to Ibn Kathir's tafsir (exegesis), the above verses show that homosexuality was unknown to humanity until the men of Prophet Lut's tribe manifested this sin by approaching men instead of women. The Prophet, Lut, peace be upon him, went on to express his astonishment that the men of his tribe had forsaken their natural mates, females, to practice their lusts with males. The commentary goes on to describe this practice as ignorance and transgressing the limits.

Right now, in the UK, in this world - nothing.

In times gone by it was both tolerated to an extent at some times nd punished - in hanafi fiqh thew punishment is at the discretion of the judge. Meaning it could be anything from no punishment to being put to death.

In saudi it is sort of ignored unless the people try to challenge the government or create a gay pride/solidarity organisation, when it is punished.
