Honesty

Question:

Should you be honest ALL the time?

Even if it means risking the impression that people have of you.

yep

but i don't think anyone could *always* tell the truth. ok. i couldn't. BUT i try me best to.

and if telling the truth will mean people have a different opinion i'd prefer that then to give a fake impression of myself to someone else

generally, honesty is a good policy. It allows you to not think too much.

As for "always", I am sure there are some situations where hiding some aspects of truth may be needed.

What people think should matter less than what you think.

I'll have a go: People will understand if you preempt potentially damaging information or share it to help others, but you shouldn't feel obliged to tell people what they have no absolute right to know, which is most personal things. It is a good idea to entrust the people you trust and be vulnerable before them, and not to entrust the people you don't. Fessing up is a different story, keep badness and vital secrets to a minimum and always fess up to the people you trust, or a double-life is inevitable.
