Dispatches investigates one of the most powerful and influential political lobbies in Britain, which is working in support of the interests of the State of Israel.
Despite wielding great influence among the highest realms of British politics and media, little is known about the individuals and groups which collectively are known as the pro-Israel lobby.
Political commentator Peter Oborne sets out to establish who they are, how they are funded, how they work and what influence they have, from the key groups to the wealthy individuals who help bankroll the lobbying.

They named and shamed zionist philanthropists against a backdrop of Gaza warfare, to a movie soundtrack, and made much of Tory statements supporting Israel at that time, and proposed a linkage. They interviewed some hardline Tories who dislike a pro-Israel line and some Jewish professors critical of Israel and its supporters. Some Jews were concerned about the programme, it's impact and the imagery and themes that are common to conspiracy theories, running throughout (despite the protestations of the producers that they alleged no conspiracy). I was concerned.
But they would have a great point if they wanted to pick someone really influential and genuinely expose them for something, but it was such an overproduced attack and without substance, now I am not at all concerned that people intelligent enough to watch regularly would not notice how lacking it was in any real journalism. I believe partisans will mail links around the net and refer to the programme until kingdom come but they were there anyway. This Oborne is on my radar now, that's all. One Jewish businessman was described to a bleak soundtrack and images of Gaza. There is no suggestion the guy isn't a good guy but he does support Israel; apparently for Oborne this warrants a villain theme and shots of barbed wire when saying he was invited to comment but didn't appear - which was weak, because he did comment indirectly on the programme, through a statement that made clear he wasn't really hardline. The whole programme irritated me like this, but all I can say is it was transparently an arrogant smear job.
Who else watched it? Am I off-base?

What reminded me is this blog post by London Muslim about a discussion of the Jewish Lobby in the US of A on CNN. (gotta disagree with the guy about CNN being the leading news channel in the US... number wise it is being trounced by Fox News Quality is from what I hear generally not that high either.

and as for the question of whether the BBC has been compromised, the answer is "yes". The DEC is only one part of it all, and the my personal opinion is that the tories are planning to gut the organisation once they into power anyway (However this is probably not due to the israeli lobby, but Rupert Murdoch wanting to get his way).

the problem is not the existence of this lobby - because everyone should be looking out for the things that matter to them. That is normal.
Question is why are the people on the other side that are supposed to present to other side of the argument absent?
Its not like the Arab countries are poor or anything... so if the palestinians really mattered to them, there would be lobby groups.
You can't avoid a system then complain when it decides against you.

No we don't know that. If there was not health industry lobby, Obama would right now be having a very easy ride with the healthcare reforms.
There are many lobbies - some are just more effective than others. You can't blame someone for being good. You can blame the others for not being as good, or not even being there at all.

I find the international law argument to be ... tiring. International law is a fascade. Countries do whatever they can get away with.
Why do you want them out of Palestine? If they bought and paid for their land/property, they have just as much right to it as anyone else. If they didn't, then it is a different case.
Either way, that is a different to the discussion on Lobbying and the Israeli lobby. You can't blame it for its challengers being inept or non existent.
and the Pro Israel lobby is not exclusively Jewish. Nor is the anti-Israel opinion Exclusively non-jewish.

There are lots of Muslim lobby groups and international NGOs that work out of Muslim countries. It is possible that a lot of people simply don't want to side against Israel.
