Yes but the americans call cakes muffins.

*dirol*''Biggy'*dirol*

When in England... who cares what they call it in America?

These are different things.

A bap is a sandwich made with a roll
A butty is a sandwich made with sliced bread
A muffin has blueberries in it
And a barm is a made-up word for northerners.

Don't just do something! Stand there.

why is barm made for northerners can't they speak English up there???

Barm sounds like a new hair cut, get it now ladies the Barm is the hottest new haircut for 2009, Barm it now at a salon near you!

The only muffins I know are the cake ones.

To be honest I think this muffin thing is a conspiracy. Nobody seems to have heard of calling a roll 'muffin' except admin. Everyone else thinks a muffin is something with chocolate chips or blueberries in it.

Admin is trying to fool us into getting confused so we order the wrong thing for lunch if we ever visit oldham.

Good try but you didn't fool me!

How can you uncultured lot not have had a chip muffin.?

You mean a chip butty....

No fool! He meant chip BARM!

Only I am right! All other interpretations of a bread based nature are signs of weak imaan...or regional dialect.

*shakes head at Ya'qub* rolls?!

Lol

Back in BLACK

We call it a cob.

I have only ever heard 'barm' on this forum... that just sounds funny. Smile

And I remember in a previous thread on this, someone saying they called it a breadcake! Lol WTH!

And I've only once heard someone call this type of cob a 'muffin'. And that was a brunch muffin.

Nope, a cob it is.

what so WTH about calling it a breadcake?

its is a breadcake! jeez

cob? what the hell is a cob? at least breadcake has the word bread in it!

"Can I have chips and roti please"

soooo

it has bread and none of the above has bread so breadcake is the correct way. why am i talking about food? i feel sick.

Yeah but then why the cake? Bread roll I can understand, but bread cake... two different things.

Apparently in Bolton some call it a flour cake! Lol

ok.

cake.

hmmm. well. you see, a cake has like a few layers, it has a base, a filling and then a top bit which covers it. same with a butty, you have the base, the filling (chips) and then the top bit, another slice of bread, breadcake.

Biggrin

chipp butty wins.

chipp butties all round with loads of KETCHUP!

Biggrin

Mmmm, alright, I'll settle fot that. But with some mushy peas too. Smile

in a butty? weird!

But delicious. Blum 3

Salaam all.

Ok, not a joke, but today was my last exam (woohoo) and it was design. One of the questions was about a QFD matrix and it was about a toaster with one of the specific criteria being "I should be able to toast my muffin, nan, crumpet as wel as bread." And for a scond I tried to picture toasting a muffin and finally the penny dropped.

So, honest to God, the very first thing I wrote on my exam answer book was:

1.) a.) (by "muffin" I'm assuming barm/roll is meant as it would be highly impractical to toast a cake.)

Hope the examiner has a sense of humour!

Is this some northern examination board?!

Also isn't nan too big to put in a toaster... or is it even nice toasted?

Are you a vinegar fan too?

Me too! I like drowning my chips in it! Biggrin

Muffin is as in chocolate chip muffine

barm/butty - no idea!

Bap is like a roll, so muffin and bap are 2 different things.

When (any of) you say roll, what do you mean? like a baguette?

Roll/bap is like a morning roll except softer (I think)
