What's the big hoo-haa about clubbing?

OK, clubbing. What are your views? Have you ever been clubbing? Would you like to go? Is it ALWAYS haram? Can it EVER be allowed?

You views please. Honesty is the best policy!

Oh, and if you have been: did you like it? Why/why not?

Never been. Wouldnt like to go. I think its always haram.
Question: is it allowed just to go in and have a drink? -halal drink? (someone asked me and i said i didnt know)
Question: are pubs seen in the same way? is it allowed to go and have a meal in pubs?

Never been. A few short months ago when I was licking my wounds I was thinking it was a mistake not having been and avoided that lifestyle. It would certainly be less restricted, but probably with a different set of problems.

Right now, I am once again ok with not having been, but still need to be hit with a clue stick.

Personally ive never been. Although i'm curious too as to what the big deal is.

I started clubbing pretty young. You know, dancing. Sometimes there's a drink and a lot of clubs implicitly cater for pillheads and so on but I wasn't into that (later I did try pills). Dancing's lovely. (Not other people dancing. Clubbers are the worst dancers in the history of civilisation. Cavemen could produce a prettier and more elaborate performance.) So it's a nice rush and doesn't require stimulants - that type of dancing if you can just forget yourself without alcohol which comes a bit naturally to me, is very good for you, good for your serotonin levels (happiness chemical). I used to occasionally stop dancing and have a sort of spiritual crisis about the whole thing, and then I remembered it was for a laugh. ftr. And other clubs might be a lot smarter, for a different crowd, classy music and guests you can really mingle with. And across the board a lot of people are on the pull. So you pick something that suits but maybe a night of crazy dancing and loud music should be an occasional treat like most other amusements, rather than a regular binge.

Arbitrarily and rashly I'll claim that the scene comprises 4 types: glamour, pills, hip hop and trash, and they overlap (such as most gay clubs which are a simply fabulous mellee) , and there are also goth clubs but I don't think people are allowed, and sex clubs which isn't what we're talking about.

All a bit random but is that a decent lowdown?

I've never been clubbing and I wouldn't want to.

There was a time a few years ago when I was really into music and wished I could go to some concerts. But not anymore. Now I think I would feel uncomfortable at a concert and wouldn't enjoy it at all. Watching on TV is more than enough. I've seen a guy I know start by going to an odd concert and then gigs and now he goes clubbing regularly. So I think even going to a concert is not a good thing IMO.

I think clubbing nowadays is as much about socialising as it is the music and dancing. In which case the whole going to pull makes it always haram to me.

Gosh that surprised me because a while back I was thinking if could live my teens and even college days again I would do things differently. I would be less Miss Sensible and just chill a bit. Have a laugh and not have been so serious and so sooooo aware of right and wrong. I've always been quite responsible and wanted to always do the right thing by my Mum and Dad. If it wasn't for having discovered Islam this route I think I would think trying to be a good daughter had not been worth it. :shock: Scary thought.

I think as research we should ALL go out to a club and see what its like.
Imagine it, 20 mad mulla's and 20 Hijaabi's in a club 😂 that would be hilarious.

The thought does have its merits but I guess its own share of hurdles too.

I would never want someone to grow up before their time though.

I heard a TV show say recently that those who act 30 when they are 16 act 16 when they are 30... It may not be true but its bares thinking about.

A moral sense of direction is a good thing. But if you had not found a deeper understanding of Islam, would you still give it as much worth? sometimes the worth is there because you found it.

In science the observer skews the outcome so by you being there it would not be the same as if you weren't.

I voted: I'd love to go... just to experience it first hand... but my parents wouldn't let me.

Clubs are really NOT my scene.

I attended a real nasheed concert at IslamExpo where Outlandish were performing, and had never seen people (or girls, should I say! 😉 ) acting as crazy as that :shock: It made me very uncomfortable, to say the least. Probably quite similar to what a real concert would be like? On the other hand, perhaps it means that I need to learn to relax a little?? hmmm

Us Muslim girls have enough fun without the need to take drugs or alcohol and dance to weird techno/dance music in any event. 😎 Just go to any sister-only party, and you'll see 😉

Is it just me or is it not the fact that everything about clubbing is haraam?? i.e dancing, drinking, mingling with the opposite gender etc. Why would any muslim even consider being in that type of environment because you can just imagine the things that go on? i dont get it...:?

AFAIK dancing in itself is not haraam. Drinking alcohol is.

As for clubs, never been. Not really thought about it until now. Mum wud hav an aneurysm.

No neither would I, and I think that for those who do it is unfortunate. Not terrible, as I do think that like everything it has its good points.
And also I hope that when I have kids I remember inshallah that making little mistakes is not such a bad thing, but that learning to pick yourself up and a little trial and error are normal and even perhaps should be encouraged.

I think that's very true. I think that when you yourself seek something and then you find it, your grasp tends to be a little more stronger. Having always done something by default I think is very different to making a conscious and educated choice to implement something. I was born a Muslim alhamdulillah but felt no real connection with Islam and at some points that connection was virtually non-existent. However being a Muslim is what made me aware of or see Islam as a real option later on.

Actually, I would go further - not allowing them to make mistakes will turn them timid and shelter them from what the world is really like potentially causing more problems in the long run.

Problem is making sure they make just the right amount of mistakes - even being strict does not mean that none will be made. Its just that they will be more hidden, harder to rectify.

here in italy the clubs and pubs are nice..you can listen music and there are bigs dancefloor...but are a little dangerous because you can drink,ecstasy.....rarely there are the control of police..

i have fun in disco..i like dancing and sometimes i drink..but i don't smoke or take ecstasy because i can have fun without it... 😃

here there are different clubs..latino, indi, techno-electro-house music..it depends from what music you like...
if u go to a club with the music that u love, i think u can have fun..there are area with music is not loud and u can talk with your friends..have fun depens also from the company....

anyway i prefer stay in bars with my friends and talk all the evening too
