Happy New year Everybody!
Salaams people.
I am a little early with this topic, but probably not as early as you all (may) think.
The Islamic new year is starting on Monday I think. (Or Sunday, but that is unlikely and I am not one to always check things out too thoroughly....)
So have a happy new year.

Re: Happy New year Everybody!
I think the significance is on the month rather than the year.
Some months have special blessings etc etc.
The whole year and numbering thing was introduced later as as to remove confusion when doing official business. "Did you mean ramadan 1428 or Ramadan 1429?"
Re: Happy New year Everybody!
don't forget to fast on the 9th and 10th.
someone (You) should flog up the muharram thread.
Re: Happy New year Everybody!
I can't seem to find it and the topic and the search function seems top be returning a blank page...broken
Thank you! And You too. And everyone else here too!
In Islam what significance does the new Islamic year hold? If any?
Are we supposed to do/read anything in particular?
Isn't it just a good time to take our actions of the passed year into account?
Muhasaba (or is it Murahaba, I can never remember.)
"Take yourselves into account, before you are taken to account."
Something like that.
Re: Happy New year Everybody!
Well, I hear since fajr the year is dead. long live the year. For about 12 months.

Does anybody here do anything to mark it? Or anything to mark the end of the solar year?
We've never really done anything for either, apart from when younger we'd stay up til midnight (for the solar calender) just for the sake of it.
