Re: CREDIT CRUNCH VOUCHERS
The new VAT (value added tax) came into affect on the 1st Dec 08. All sales of standard rated goods will have 15% VAT added to each sale instead of 17.5%.
For those of you that want to know more about the above click on the link below.
VAT
Many stores have already got a sale on and its not even January!
Re: CREDIT CRUNCH VOUCHERS
Yes, not much of a saving, but think about all the new jobs created to updated the prices on EVERYTHING, business calculations etc etc.
and then once again when in a years and a bits time the VAT returns to 17.5%, the jobs will be created there.
The government is being sneaky to create new jobs.
Genius.
Re: CREDIT CRUNCH VOUCHERS
VAT
If a company charges £10.00 for a garment then they will have previously added on 17.5% VAT which means you pay £1.75 on top of the £10.00.
Now your paying £1.50 on top of the £10.00
a saving of 25p.
What new jobs? Business calculations will be done by accountants (as previously). No new jobs but it does mean more work and money for accountants.
The other day i was reading in the paper that Aston Martin (i think) i laying off 300 people!
Re: CREDIT CRUNCH VOUCHERS
I doubt if that has much to do with the VAT rate change.
As for accountants - they are people. they probably already have a fixed workload, so more work means = work harder or employ more people.
and then there are the knock down effects for people doing the physical repricing in stores, the people who make the ads and of spreading the wealth.
Re: CREDIT CRUNCH VOUCHERS
The Aston Martin thing has no relevance to VAT, it just popped into my head so i thought i would share it with everyone lol.
Didnt you know accountants are monkeys 😂
Anyway on a more serious note yes it will mean more work for accountants but companies will not employ more people as they are trying to cut back costs. They would rather work their current employees down to the ground instead of recruting more ppl. And we the pelbs (the ppl at the bottom of the hireachcy) will put up with it otherwise were out of a job.
As for repricing everything, at work we have just put two boards near the till which show the old and new price. It has about 15 prices on it, the rest your suppose to figure out yourself. Went into primark today and they also have not repriced every single item just replaced the signage. Im guessing its going to be a gradual process but again they will not be recruting more ppl to do it, they are gonna get their current employees to do it.
Therefore in conculsion its not creating new jobs but rather increasing the current employees workload.
salaam, dont meant to sound rude, but are these vouchers really valid??
