Muslims Are Awesome even when just saying ‘Hi’
Assalamu-alaikum is the great greeting Muslims use whenever they meet on another. It’s a greeting that translates as ‘Peace be upon you’. Its a shortened form of the grander greeting: Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh (Peace be unto you and so may the mercy of Allah and His blessings). Aint that cool? It may also interest you to know it’s the greeting of the Angels in heaven.
The common response to a greeting of Assalamu-alaikum is Wa Alaikum as-Salam which means ‘And upon you be peace’. Which you gotta admit is better than greeting your friends with ‘Sup’… which is short for ‘wats up?’ which I believe is slang for ‘hows things?’ and then you would probably reply with 'nothing, watchn the game. Sup with u?'
The greeting of peace is almost always accompanied by a handshake. With the exception of Eid of course, when you go beyond and invade personal boundaries by hugging three times. A bit like the Italians… except they take it further and give you a quick peck on the cheek lol.
So anyway you look at it, we Muslims are awesome.
PS: The phrase salaamu aleykum appears in a song by Queen called Mustapha.

I heard a funny story: A guy was walking down the street and he saw a work colleague of his walking towards him. He assumed she would say 'how are you?', 'are you ok?' or 'orite?' or similar, so he got his response ready.
The only problem is she just said 'Hi', to which he responded 'Not too bad.' They both carried on walking, barely slowing their pace. By the time he realised his mistake it was too late to remedy the situation. The damage was done and much embarrasment was felt.
Personally, I think that is absolutely hilarious.
I've always hated the greeting 'safe'. What are you trying to say to me? You mean you won't attack or mug me? Well thank you very much! If you mean that it is ME who is 'safe', then you are assuming things which you may not be too pleased to discover if/when you are wrong in your assumption. Safe.
Aoooo ... so if someone says 'you orite' or 'you k' or 'how u doin' and etc etc how do we reply?
I always end up replying by salaam and then i think whether their 'Hi' was rhetorical or no
Naa if you say hi/salaam back your just acknowledging there orite/k. If you dont reply then they think your ignorant. I get that a lot lol.
Re: Muslims Are Awesome even when just saying ‘Hi’
I say "alright there" most of the time, but when I come across Muslims I say Salam Alaykum, I sometimes shake their hand, touch their fist or do a shoulder bash.

When ever someone puts their fist up to 'spud' me, I open my hand and shout 'Paper beats rock!' then run off. But I actually hug all my friends, and sometimes give them a little shoulder rub. This is because I love them!
If a woman puts out her hand to shake mine, I have been tempted to shout 'Pervert!' at her, but usually I don't (as this tends to only happen at job interviews).

In my first year of uni, I was between classes and my french tutor saw me and said "Bonjour". It totally caught me off guard, the thought process in my head was:
Foreign language. What's the appropriate response? Oh yeah, got it!
And so I almost said "Wa alaykum assalaam."Caught myself just in time though.

Did you swallow a turn of the century novel 😛
We deffinatly do have the upper hand with our greetings, personally I give my Salaam, and then add a 'Safe' or 'Sup' for good measure, mainly because thats just the type of language common where I live and the talk I've been braught up with.
Even Arabs and North Africans have a tendancy to greet you with 'Washraak' basically an Arabic 'Sup'

Many Syrians say 'Shlonak', which I think means the same.
Charles Dickens was delicious, btw.

LOL, calm down Tina.
Courage wasnt referring to you. It was directed at brother Ya'qub. Life is too short for regrets and decisions we were too scared to make. The key is to realise what matters.
I heard somewhere that one of the signs for the end of days will be that supposed Muslims will only say Salaam to people they know, rather than to all other Muslims they meet.

No, no no! 😂 I wasn't talking to you. Yaqub said: "Charles Dickens was delicious." Which isn't what you normally say.
"Chin up, mate! Life's too short." is my signature. It means life's too short for you to waste or spend all yout time thinking you're worthless.
