oh yeah, congratulations on finding your way to Islam (and if you want to, most people do find the stories enlightening.). There are many sisters on here who will be able to help you if needs be, Just give them time as not all are on at the same time.

Also if you have any questions, just ask. and then watch us fight like rabid... erm I mean discuss the matters like intellectual people 😛

So, welcome and make yourself at home. I would offer virtual Jaffa cakes (where you go to a shop and buy them yourself), but it is Ramadan, so I will refrain.

Wasalaam..I dont live in london 🙁 but im sure you will meet many other muslimahs and one of the first things you shold do is attend local mosques where they have many islamic seesions,, not only will this broaden your understanding of Islam but willhelp you meet other sisters that will be able to guide you. Contragulations, 2 weeks since you coverted..mashhallah so your still new..How are you finding ramadan?

Assalamu alaiakum and congratulations.

I converted 2 and a half years ago, and at first I didn't know more than a couple of people. It can be quite daunting at first, but in time you will find the mosque to be very inviting and friendly (the ones that allow women in the first place, anyway!)

The first place that I went to, and found many wonderful brothers who have helped me and been very close to me, was Regent's Park Mosque. On Saturday afternoons (at 3 o'clock) there is the Islamic Circle, downstairs below the main prayer hall. It was started in the 1980s by Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens) and every week they have a different speaker on a large variety of topics. It is almost always interesteing and inspiring, and they serve you tea and biscuits afterwards and everybody chats to one another (very traditional English!), so its a good way of meeting new sisters. The sisters sit separately from the brothers, but there is a tv screen for them showing the person who is speaking.

The reason I suggests this above other things, is because there are many new converts there as well as non-Muslims, so it is a very open atmosphere. It is not dogmatic/judgemental in the way some other groups/talks can sometimes be. Once a month there is also a 'New Muslim' forum where on of the sheikhs comes down to answer your questions. All in all, I think its by far the best thing that Regent's Park Mosque do.

Keep coming to the forum, there are some very nice people on here, some of who talk sense part of the time.

-Ya'qub I wish I could go to regents park mosque on a sat I just got a new job that requires me to work on that day sadly..... But Regents park mosque is the mosque I plan to go to asap so im sure i'll b able to participate in something else that is goin on during the week, but thank you for ur advice.....

Oh, that's a shame. Well since its Ramadan, you should try going there for iftar (breaking of the fast). The mosque gives you free food and its an excellent opportunity to meet people. The main thing is not to be shy (it can be quite daunting at first). Just smile and say salam to the people sitting next to you, and in my experience, some people bend over backwards to be welcoming and supportive.

I also know a group who meet up every two weeks on a Sunday to talk about the Qur'an and support one another. They have helped me a lot, they are so lovely and supportive. It's in Islington in North London. There won't be any gatherings til after Ramadan, and I will have gone abroad by then. But I can put you in touch with some of the wonderful people there.

Thank you all again I cant express how welcome I feel.......

I got into Islam via my ex who was interested in isalam he always used to share what he learnt with me so I then began to do my own individual research, and began to become more and more interested and eventually decided this was the truth and the path for me..... So we both went our own seperate ways and took our shahada's...........

My first ramadan is going ok but at first it was not going as well as I had hoped, meaning I was sooooo hungry all the time and I went away to my cousins for some study time so I could read my book 'The ideal muslimah' but..... it didnt go as planned cos she always required my attention and as I hadent seen her for a long time we jus spent time bonding, so I left wen i realised I was falling behind on my reading..... Now im home I have a plan to jus stay at home fast and educate myself it went well yesterday Alhamdulillah. So I hope it continues to go as I plan Inshallah..... Wen I feel hungry I try to remember my intentions and read Qur'an.... My next step is to buy some educational dvds about islam and learn arabic, and also I want to give to charity so im off to go on muslim aid now......

Hunger should be enjoyed. Because you know it is for your Creator.

When you realise this fact, then whenever you get really hungry during the day,
you will love it.

Feeling the pain of hunger during Ramadan is like sacrifising something for your beloved.

Its like missing your husband or a wife.

Missing is not a nice things but we love to miss the person we love.

Likewise, it should eventually become a pleasure to feel hungry for God.

Salam Alaykum, Amila, congratulations for coming to Islam. Just remember you are a human being who has come to salvation, Allah has guided you to this Deen which is there to benefit you not make your life unbearable.
Remember, some people, including scholars unfortuantely, will do or say stuff about Islam that'll make you feel wierd, but the trick is to always question and challenge, Islam is the truth that's supposed to help us, it's got nothing to hide. Blind faith is neither accepted nor expected in Islam, as Yassir Fazaga puts it.
Inshallah, you'll have a fantastic time as a Muslim and on this Forum.
yaqub and 1Believer are two converts to Islam, I'm sure they'll be able to relate to you and answer any questions you might have.
