Oh, MY GOD! You think that's a great poem? It's a bit unfair and it's not even original! It's a parody to Robert Louis Stevenson.

Of course it's original. It is inspired by a verse by Stevenson (in Requiem) but you can hardly accuse Philip Larkin of plagiarism. He was one of the greatest, most popular and most inspiring modern poets. "It's a bit unfair and it's not even original" is just an immature response to a brilliant and seminal work.

The swearing isn't intended to cause offence although it does bring some liveliness to his poems. Here's another one, a contemplation of his own spiritual ambivalence. Warning: contains language that some may find offensive.

Today i found a 1 yr old wandering on a side street @ 8.30pm. At first I wasn’t sure whether i should pick the kid up because I thought its parents or sum1 may have been around watching or close by n wer going to pick him up.. but when he start running into the road (& a lil roundabout) it just wasn’t right so I took his hand realised he had no shoes on so picked him up.

My sister and my 2yr old nephew live not so far from there so all sorts were running through my head..

Knocked on the nearest doors cos I wanted sum1 else on the scene and thought sum1 must know who the kids is turned out.. the kid was left with its younger sisters 15/16 who claimed the eldest sister was meant to be looking after him but she’s “probably drunk”. No sign of parents just a house full of kids from 9-16 yrs old. Also there were a few steps to get into the house duno how the kiddo managed to get down or did the drunk sis leave him outside? The baby immediately seemed to recognisethe girls so I was happy that he was with the right people but still called the police after...

wt sort of a parent can leave a 1 yr old 🙁

That was a perfect response on your part, finding the family and telling the police. I can understand parents letting a 16 year old babysit, but that situation shows them up as obviously highly incompetent. On the off-chance it was a straightforward lapse on the teenagers' part I certainly hope getting the police involved teaches them a lesson. It's very lucky you saw the child, God knows what might have happened.

And unless im mistaken (which i dont think i am) that was the whole point of this thread, was it not? To share what we have learnt.
