Where is home?

Salam Brothers and Sisters,

I have not posted in a while but there is one topic on my mind everyday which I cannot conclude and would like to hear your views.

I am getting tired by the day of the acts that occur in this country and around the areas I work and live. I have a wife and my daughter Aisha is nearly 15 months old. On a daily basis there is killing, theft amongst so many other things and the rulers that police this land are not even close to being in control.

I am more and more contemplating moving away to somewhere safer, more livable and where my daughter will not have an upbrining which has to include being taught about why people kill their own children because they are jealous of their loved one or something ridiculous.

Where, if anywhere would people consider?

WS

My home is England, South Yorkshire. Born and bred and will probably live here for the rest of my life. Went to my motherland and only managed to last 1 week and 5 days, never am i ever going back (I'll only go back to Lahore).

I personally believe England is one of the safest, securest places to live in. I would never move to a middle eastern country, they are much, much worse (unless i go to study, Syria, Yemen or Madinah). You get crime everywhere, there isn't once place where it doesn't happen, and even in the haram do people steal. In which other country do the Ambulance service, police arrive within minutes of your call?

France Lol Lol Lol

Those who danced were thought to be quite insane, by those who couldn't hear the music...

My home is honeyhill road queens park beford bedfordshire england united kingdom. My motherland is mirpur, azad kashmir, pakistan, i love it there but is it safe? no is it somewhere were i would settle down? no do i want to go again? You better believe it.
Does this make me an idiot?
the only flaws i find in britain is the weather and the media otherwise its a wonderful place to live, if you compare it to other places in the world.

I am also British born and have lived here all of my life.

Worry about how quickly an ambulance arrives is not my concern. Things such as binge drinking, lack of basic respect for others, people being murdered for their mobile phone etc are not common in all other countries (western maybe).

I agree the middle east is also not the safest of places both at the moment and in the near future but how about elsewhere?

Whether you live in the city or the country all the above still apply when you live in the UK.

That happens everywhere. Even in highly populated muslim countries

There isn't anywhere.

...home is where the heart is.

This may be in a dump or the most safest area in the world.

At the moment London is my home - but prior to that it was B'ham but who knows what the future holds.

Totally agree with you Abbas and know where you’re coming from. The west is slowly corrupting our kids, when i look down the street at my fellow Muslims i feel disappointment, they no longer know who they are, why they are on earth. The only way you can tell what a country is like is if you have lived there sometime or you know someone who has. There was a family near my end and they all have permanently moved to Egypt coz her daughter was getting up to no good.

I recommend Granada in Andalusia in Spain.

Beautiful place, big(ish) Muslim community, nicer weather, veryone has a nap mid-afternoon.

Only thing is you need to learn Spanish. A small price to pay IMO

si senior.

Is that enough? (and is it spanish?)

"For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens 'as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone'" - David Cameron, UK Prime Minister. 13 May 2015.

I have considered making dubai my home for some time now...a few teacher friends of mine have made their shift their - muslims and non muslims.

City life is similar to London, working conditions is better and its an Islamic country.

What about Japan?

Industrialised nations generally have rising crime rates but with Japan it's consistent, and even in some areas the crime rates are decreasing.

The country's rich and developed, technologically advanced, and you won't need to worry about getting nuked coz they're now friends with the US.

I think Japan is one of the least religious places in the world.

getting halal food would be tricky.

unless you were happy eating sushi everyday...

I saw a Japanese couple in Medina.

And I know a Japanese convert living in London.

Thanks for the replies. I used to speak Spanish fluently so I wouldn't find it hard to pickup although I hadn't really considered Spain.

I thought about Dubai and Japan as I have links to both of them and the halal meat or lack of it wouldn't pose a problem. When I first started praticing (4 years now) I turned into a pure veggie for the first 6 months and it was great!

What about african countries? Remote parts of South Africa for example?

They say Home is where the heart is.

But, where is the heart?

If the heart is with the most loved one, the beloved, home is anywhere. He will make your home anywhere, and you will be happy.

I often think about my future in this country, UK, northwest, manchester. Ive been pakistan many times, and I could easily live there, but I dunno whther I would, not an ideal place to raise a family. Hopefully in the future if the political climate settles, I may consider it. I often think about Damascus in Syria, I dont know why, ive never even been there, nor speak Arabic.

I find, no matter where I am, I can be okay, n nor complain, even if i dont have what we in the west call basic amneties, such as running water electricity etc. (I have spent a week in a village where the house had no elcetricity).

I think "home" surpasses the need of a physicality, such as a house, Home I feel is a state of ones heart. House is a means of physical comfort.

They may live n die n never reach the stars,
but in the darkness of the night, those stars will guide them to their destination.

I was speaking to a Syrian brother this evening who's moved to London to do his masters.

I asked him what he thought of London, and he said parts of it impressed him a lot but other things left him very disappointed.

He said that someone in Syria had told him that in London there was NO litter on the floor, and the whole place was SPOTLESSLY clean; he thought that all the buildings would be grand, old Victorian/Edwardian houses and that there wouldn't be any run-down, crime-ridden areas. He also said there were loads of foreigners and hardly any English people.

I told him that he reminded me of Dick Whittington, who left his small town to seek fortune in London...he had been told that in London "the streets are paved with gold!"

Anyway, on the topic of Syria, here is a picture of the Ummayad mosque in Damascus, the tiny figure you can hardly make out is me, (just to let you know I am 6'1" ):

Couldn't agree more. And there are quite a few asian 'coconuts' out there lol Lol

The media, government, tried to blow us, but they can't out the flame, or doubt the name.

So that's the Ummayad mosque in Damascus. The Imam of that mosque came to our local mosque to give a talk on the topic 'Islam in the West'.

I heard he comes from the lineage of the Prophet (pbuh).

Shaykh Ahmad Muadh Al-Khatib Al-Hasanee.

He went back to Syria the day after the talk. Unfortunately the advertising of this talk wasn't good so the audience wasn't as big as it should have been.

from what i heard there are 12 imams at that masjid and the head being ash shaykh asad saeed sagarji or have i confused myself with another masjid? hmm, can a minhaji help me out here!

i think theres a huge difference between living in the English countryside and living in the city, crime levels are not the same at all, the quality of life generally is higher. Downside for muslims is lack of islamic resources, especially the masjid. If muslims i duno set up avillage masjid, school etc muslims could live a cush life here, shame they all choose to settle in the dumps

thing about binge drinking how are you exposed to that? I mean i assume you're not out and about in the late evenings/nights when this sort of thing usually occurs?

lack of respect is prevalent in every country i find it hard to believe its at an all time high in the uk alone.

In my town there are no pubs what so ever, does that help and there are two masjids a multi-faith school crime levels are generally low and house prices are average.
