Edible shampoo?

Excuse the misleading title but

Can we use products such as shampoo etc that contain alcohol if we don't ingest it? We obv can't/don't get intoxicated on it, so what's the ruling?

Like, we can't eat pigs but I think most people think that wearing shoes made of pigskin is also not okay?

Cheers all.

Some people avoid them.

But I would suggest:

1. They are not the same as alcohol and are often midified to get rid of their intoxicating properties in order to save on tax (intoxicants have a higher rate of tax).
2. While some will say that it should be avoided, there is also clear evidence that only drinking is banned and I will stick to the latter, but some may prefer the former out of extra care.

It doesn't matter what you or other people THINK

Is there no Quran/Hadith on it??

Edit: That looks harsher than I intended; I just meant I'd prefer fact over opinion. (:

There is a hadith about Hadhrat Khalid Ibn Walid bathing himself in alcohol in order to disinfect his wounds.

For this he was called infront of Hadhrat Umar (ra), the Caliph of the time and asked why he did this.

He explained, said that alcohol was only banned for drinking purposes, and was then allowed to return back to his duties.

Okay and who was Hadhrat Khalid Ibn Walid, and what was his evidence for alc only being banned for drinking purposes?

, sahabi.

and its not just his "evidence" but that it was accepted by the second Caliph of Islam.

Don't mean to be disrespectful or anything but; would it be impossible for them to be wrong?

They could be and that article also puts things in a negative light.

But it was the quickest route.

Yeah, I agree. I was just wondering if other predecessors or anyone had said anything contrary, since the majority opinion seems to be the opposite on the shampoo thing.

Even on the revival, it says perfumes and lotions containing some kinds of alcohol are not allowed, so thats not alcohol only being disallowed for drinking?

Lol, i haven't looked into that on purpose.

Not ready to depart from my beloved make up and perfumes.

Yeah I was the same; and about the shampoos etc,
but ignorance is not bliss, when you *can* find out the truth.

"alcohols" is a large group of chemicals, not limited to just drinkable alcohol and as you mentioned, only the drinking one is not allowed (and even that for drinking).

There are differing opinions, based on safety ("being more careful is better than being less careful") but I trust the opinion that anything other than drinking it is allowed.

The argument that bans all drinkable alcohols and only them from eg shampoo is IMO weak as the not drinkable ones are poisonous to drink (in large enough quantities) and surely that does not make something ok.
