= Haraam?
This is the beginning of the argument that went on in my head: (summarised points)
>Because we believe the Qur'an and it's content are absolute?
We are also able to decide if we believe in God or not, and we *must*do this
>We're meant to be tolerant of others though
We should follow the law of the country, this in itself is a different set of morals
< We should feel as though we 'have' to abide by these laws though, not that we want to. We should have complete faith in the shariah
And it went on like that,
Thoughts?
Some moral positions are absolute, others are not.
Even with the absolute morals there are questions that arise when people are unable to live by them - how much leniency or strictness is required etc to get the best results overall.
Go too strict and the sins move underground, potentially more dangerous.
Go too lenient and the moral ay lose its weight and over time be considered to become minor and thus eventually be lost too.
"For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens 'as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone'" - David Cameron, UK Prime Minister. 13 May 2015.
//>Because we believe the Qur'an and it's content are absolute?//
It's contents are absolute in that they do not change - the words are fixed till the day of judgement - their application however does vary according to the problem/reality
//We are also able to decide if we believe in God or not, and we *must*do this//
Preconditions belief in Quran
//>We're meant to be tolerant of others though//
Can't bash an idea into someone's head
//We should follow the law of the country, this in itself is a different set of morals//
Nope - forbidden - we follow Allah's law and if it permits something we can do it - if it does not we can't. Even where we do something in accordance "with law of land" we are in reality following God's law that permits it - if it didn't we'd throw law of the land out of the window!
//< We should feel as though we 'have' to abide by these laws though, not that we want to. We should have complete faith in the shariah//
The main reason you give them any consideration is because of the threat of force or prison or fines if you don't! Most people have no moral obligation to follow them!
//Some moral positions are absolute, others are not.//
The Islamic moral position is fixed - some other moral systems and philosophies believe morality veries over time and there is nothing fixed about morals - claptrap! They don't even define morality or right/wrong and make absurd comments about it!
You didn't answer the question right
I wasn't giving you an excuse to rant at me
that was my train of thought
you're just meant to answer the question.
