but will it make a difference?
wouldnt it be better to encourge Muslims to become MPs, we sure could do with some that arent traitors!

Who would vote for them? Would they win? Would power corrupt?

It is our job to keep the MP's honest.

Not that I intend to write in or something.

"For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens 'as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone'" - David Cameron, UK Prime Minister. 13 May 2015.

I would vote. Whether power corrupts of course it does. How many ppl, before they have become MPs have promised things but never fulfiled their promises. It doesnt matter whether they are Muslims or non Non Muslims the power always goes to their heads. Thats just men for you. Now if the country was being run by women we wouldnt have any of these problems Biggrin

You remember Margaret Thatcher dont you? Responsible for the death of prisoners in Northern Irelands Maze Prison. Almost doubling the unemployment rate to two million. The Falkland war etc etc...

Then theres Benazir Bhutto... no better than a common theif.

It doesnt matter if they're men or women they're all as crooked as each other. Power Corrupts... and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

if only people like me would run for positions such as mp the world would most certainly be a better place

Those who danced were thought to be quite insane, by those who couldn't hear the music...

They won't think its stupid if they get loads of letters telling them to do the same thing.

Even if they do think its stupid they'll do as their told, or at least pretend to, or they'll lose votes.

well preteding isnt going to solve the problem isit?

But it won't hurt either.

Some people might think the MP is serious. It'll give the impression that the issue is being taken seriously and it'll move up the news agenda. The more coverage it gets the better it is for the cause.

people may be lead to belive that the mp is serious bt the law is still unchangd and people will could still be kept up to 56 days no matter what they make the public fink

MPs have to vote to increase the detention time. No doubt they'll have to vote on the bill several times.

If the MP is merely posturing then he/she will be found out when they fail to vote against the gov on a procedural vote to do with the bill.

Even if they do do a u-turn and vote for the whole bill, it is up to the people who sent in the letters to make sure the MP doesn't get re-elected.

This is what a brother had to say about this:

[i]Asalaamu alaykum wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatahu

In the world today where wars are being fought in far off lands with tanks, guns and missiles, what can we as Muslims do living in countries in the West and elsewhere around the world in safe communities and houses and jobs to promote and propagate the cause of Justice.

The Prophet of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) taught that we should strive with every instrument, whether it be your hand, tongue or heart to strike down injustice wherever it rears its ugly head.

It is no good to say to Allah on the Day of Judgement that "O Allah, what could an email have done, or a letter to my MP, or a protest march have done?" The point is, we don't know until we try and this is Allah's Way of Affairs. We should strive as much as we can, even if it doesn't have an effect, so we can come to Allah tomorrow and not say we didn't do anything at all. For that would be a true disgrace.

The issue raised below is one of many issues today, from the banning of the hijab in France, to countless wars resembling a Christian crusade, to the demonisation of Muslims, etc, etc about which we can, at the very least, raise our voice and fulfil an important teaching of our Beloved Master (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam). The below website and technique is a good tool, one of many, and I would urge the reader to use it for this and other issues affecting the Muslims and even non-Islam related issues, like Global Warming, Human Rights, Economics, etc. We have been given voices by Allah, so let's use them, make dua'aa and see what happens!!

Ma'salaam

I did actually receive a personal letter in the post the next day, from Mr Michael Meacher MP, to re-iterate that he will not be backing this new motion.
My point is, we live in a democratic country. We elect the people to represent us. We pay their wages. We have a right speak to them. And they have to listen to us and respond to us.
We need to stop complaining about our predicament, bury our heads in the sand, and hope all our problems will go away. We have to do something.
On our own we may be nothing, but collectively we can achieve great things.
