AUSTRALIA (ANS) -- A shocking killing on the east coast of Australia, in Queensland's popular Gold Coast region, illuminates the great and urgent need for rigorous, open debate on what Western religious liberty means for Muslim immigrants, and what Islam's rejection of apostasy means for Christians in terms of convert care.

AUSTRALIA: GIRL'S CONVERSION RESULTS IN MOTHER'S DEATH

On the evening of Monday 9 October, Kaihana Hussain, the teenage daughter of Muslim immigrants, told her parents that she was converting from Islam to Christianity. Her father responded with unrestrained fury. Neighbours heard "blood curdling" and "terrifying" screams and cries of "Help me, help me, they're trying to kill me", but they were unsure which apartment the screams were coming from, and the voices were unfamiliar.

After a short time, Kaihana came running out of the family's apartment, dressed only in her underwear, her clothes torn off, blood splattered over her severely scratched and cut body.

All that is known at this stage is that after her father began to attack her, Kaihana's mother, Yasmin (41, and a strict and devout Muslim), intervened to aid and protect her daughter.

What police found when they entered the apartment was Yasmin bleeding severely from a fatal knife wound to the chest, and her husband, Kaihana's father, Dr Muhammad Hussain (49) also bleeding from a potentially fatal knife wound to the chest. Blood was splattered on walls, floors and doorways throughout the three-bedroom luxury apartment. Yasmin died at the scene and Dr Hussain is presently hospitalised in an induced coma, in a critical condition. Police have confirmed that Kaihana is not a suspect in their deaths.

The Herald Sun reports: "Dr Hussain completed his medical training at the Chittagong Medical College in Bangladesh in 1982. In 2001, he completed a masters in family medicine in Australia and four years later was granted a fellowship by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners." (Link 1)

After migrating to Australia, the family settled in Adelaide, South Australia. They sent their daughter to the local non-denominational Christian school because of its high academic, and no doubt moral, standards.

It appears that Kaihana was profoundly influenced by this exposure to Christianity. The Australian newspaper reports that the family's recent move from Adelaide, South Australia, to the Gold Coast, Queensland, was prompted by Dr Hussain's fear that Kaihana's Muslim faith was being threatened by her education. (Link 2)

Dr Hussain moved to the Gold Coast in September and Yasmin and Kaihana joined him on the weekend of 7-8 October, just after Kaihana's 17th birthday, and only days before Kaihana told her parents she was committed to converting to Christianity.

The Herald Sun reported on 11 October, "A Muslim source told The Gold Coast Bulletin last night that Dr Hussain arrived a month ago to take up a position as a GP and prepare for his family to join him.

"'From what we understand the daughter decided to tell her father of her radical plan to convert to Christianity which, in the eyes of most Muslims, is totally unacceptable and to be honest, sadly, many would react as he has done,' said the source.

"'It is the Islamic way that if a son or daughter does or plans to do something that is unacceptable or wrong for a Muslim then it is the mother who is automatically at fault and will bear the brunt of the blame."' (Link 1)

Pretty shocking

And here is the details from a blog:

Quote:
Police have found evidence of Kaihana's intention to hurt her parents. It includes:

a scrapbook containing notes on "How to kill your parents, a complete guide"

Police believe Kaihana tricked her parents into putting on blindfolds, saying she had a surprise for them. Then, holding a kitchen knife which she had allegedly used to prepare dinner, she allegedly stabbed them, inflicting wounds 20cm deep.

And what is even more disgusting is:

Quote:
The World Evangelical Alliance ("a network of churches in 127 nations") and Apologia Christi (a Christian blog run by "a former attorney") have picked up on the story, stamping it with the authority of a verse from the gospel of Matthew ("Pray God will reveal the truth in this matter and Kaihana will be set free," writes blogger Bill K.).

May ALLAH have mercy on her parents - ameen

Perhaps if a dingo had killed the parents, there would have been even more media coverage.

whats that nonsense about it's the islamic way to blame the mother for her childrens rebellion? It's a pack of lies. It's the indopak culture that does that, ppl really need to learn the difference between culture and religion.

I don't understand what led her to attack her parents, why didn't she just plan to leave them if she thght they would never accept it? Write a letter, call them from a distance and tell them you've decided to become a Christian, rather than resorting to violence against those that raised you :?

I know most muslims wouldn;t be over the moon especially if they were devout and their child decided to convert to another faith. But isn't that true of other faiths too, it can't be restricted to muslims. This is just more spin from the media..all muslims are violent

I actually know of one family , bangladeshi again, in which the eldest daughter was sent to a catholic school, but so were her sisters. Well she musta been influenced by it. when she then went on to uni she musta got a chance to look into the religion more. As a result she told her parents she had become a christian, but bigger blow she had become a christian nun.

So i doubt the parents were happy., but they weren't exactly devout they're very liberal, not really practising but expect the core values of islam to be followed. So anyways they didn't disown her. But when they learned that she was giving dawah to her siblings thats when they told her to leave the house for good.

Well i can understand their concerns, at least they never disowned her or acted violently.

I think it is all propaganda. I dont believe a word of it.

Ayatollah rightly named America as "Great Satan".

I expect this response from Zionist

You have an untenable position, so you drag something else into the discussion. The source is credible

My friends in Australia will confirm this incident did happen, a xian murdered her parents, and they dear to challenge us on the issue of apostasy

Erm... no sectarian please. Not even for Shia's. Blum 3

and accusing people of zionism is not a nice thing. Remember for every false and unfounded accusation you make you will eventually have to ask for forgiveness FROM THAT PERSON before you are allowed into heaven.

I don’t know why Seraphim is following me around and constantly pounding me, when I first joined right up to my 1000 post and beyond we hardly ever addressed each other

I was not accusing anyone of being a Zionist but implying their tactics of source selecting and debunking– Yes I’m guilty off.

You have mention that I observe adab and akhlaq as you would normally do in real conversations, it’s only right I sincerely apologise to Seraphim for implying such slander.
