According to and other , British Muslims are thought to have donated around £100 Million in the month of Ramadan this year. This figure does not include donations to most mosques or non Muslim charities, so the overall figure may be a lot higher.

A quick google search has suggested a similar figure for past years. This has been broken down to around £371 per Muslim in the UK - and this is just for the one month and many will continue regular charity donations all year round, but maybe not at the same levels.

(I must ashamedly admit that I was nowhere near reaching donating this average amount)

I think this is an amazing amount - especially when contrasted with the British annual average of £18 a year (or £1.50 for a month).

Over the past few years the British community has become more insular, less tolerant and less humane, however it seems the Muslim community has bucked this trend and has continued this amazing tradition of generosity.
