Waste not want not

For the past year (and a bit) I’ve worked as a Jewellery Sales Consultant – gold, silver, diamonds you name it we’ve got it (no mention of who the ‘we’ is – they promote themselves enough) Anyway I’ve seen people buy for the sake of buying, seriously – what’s another £200 here and there eh?

I must admit I do find myself amazed (and perhaps a little envious?) that they just splash their money around with no guilt! (no thought of the consequences: like not being able to afford something necessary – for many this is usually rent or food or something. For me it’s not being able to afford My Big Plan – don’t ask!)

Ok so mayyybe they saved for it but what about the one couple to who on the 25th of January 2010, I sold a 1 Carat Diamond on 18ct Gold to, for: wait for it, £1250.00 (Given, I did use sales techniques - no violence involved - and they used a 15% off voucher so actually paid £1062.50 but they would have bought it voucher or no voucher - a ring for over £1000.00?!? whattt?!)

Back in the real world (well my world), sales and discount vouchers (Student Beans being one of my personal favourites) are a must, why pay more – ok I’m sure that’s someone’s slogan and I’m totally not plagiarising it! For example (I am too accommodated with English essays) , if a person can get a staff discount (yay!), why not use it? Is it some sort of proof that you have the money or something? Ok I hear you Reader (Yes I’m getting all Jane Eyre on you): maybe they just don’t want to use the discount, leave it aloneee. Fine, fair enough.

BUTTT ‘Fifty cents is a lot of money. You save fifty cents here then maybe you somewhere else and you save another fifty cents, then you have one dollar. Then you take your dollar, you go to the dollar store, you buy something else’
(I found this hilarious actually: ha ha ha ha ha – that’s umm my evidence of me finding it hilarious, maybe I should have LOLLLLLL-ed it instead, either way it was f-u-n-n-y!)

*I think I should reference - for those of you who are like “what they heck is she going on about?!” [Russell Peters]

Anywayyy (I need to get over the word – one day) the point is there’s no point (point, point) in wasting extra money when you can pay less, am I wrong? I’m never wrong (well sometimes when eclipses happen i.e. not so often – ok that wasn’t very good I have to admit- ergh)

And its not about being cheap its about being wise, ‘grown up’ actually grinnno - helloooo money doesn’t grow on trees (and for you not-so-smart-alecs ["smart arse" is more commonly used in the UK – Wiki-wiki-wikipediaaa – which is not appropriate to reference in university essays] money is not made out of paper so doesn’t come from trees per se, its made of cotton or something likewise – boo to your ‘clever’ comments!

Ooh and just oneee last thing: wasting food – what is that about? I hear it all the time “oh I’m so full, I can’t finish it”, ‘it’ being the largest meal on the menu. Order something smaller ORRR for us chicks who pretend we’re full so it looks like we don’t actually eat that much – the foods going in the bin, at least doggy bag it! (Who else is guilty? Anyone brave enough to admit it?)

Ok so my rant is officially over.. I'm sorry if I sound like a total hater but hey,
À force d'explications ça finira par entrer.
(Explain it for long enough and it will sink in)

until next time!

yh i hear you, its good to save where you can and make use of all that you have.... really start to appreciate the amount i have left towards the end of the second semester lol .... before i even finished reading that $ quote Russel Peters came to my mind (hahaha good times, loads of laughs lol, o and another fav Dave Chappelle)

I assume that this jewelery does not depreciate markedly over time? That could help with the guilt factor since there is always the idea that if the money really is needed, it is still there.

I also assume that some of these people have far more money than students or maybe even more money than sense.

but a grand, that is a lot of money. I could do a lot with a grand. Like pay off some debts. Wait, suddenly wasting it on something else sounds like more fun.

(I have seen that russel peters clip and got the reference straight away, even though I could not remember his name.)

I guessss it's a sort of investment especially since the price of gold is going up but many people (obviously not all) who have gold and want to sell it go to pawn brokers who will basically rip you off anyway - it's hard to get what the piece is actually worth so in that case it's a loss.. right?
