If you want to do law at Uni level then it's actually better to do other subjects at Alevel and not specifically an actual Law Alevel. For example history and english - check out the uni requirements for more details.

Also check out the and topics.

hy, yh im studying law at the moment, currently in my second year of uni. Also took law at a levels aswel.

can i just ask why you want to do law?
whats your influence to do it?

you ask what law is like and there is no way of putting it other than 'hard work!'

Law will consist of alot of reading and will anyone wishing to go into law will need a good sense of concentration because alot of the topics may not be at all appealing yet will still need to be studied as they are compulsory. One example is the law of the european language.... myself and others including 3rd years iv asked found it extremely boring and tedious yet its just something you have to put up with.

you may think im trying to put you off taking law, but last thing i want to do is put you in a false sense of thinking law may be an easy going subject.

Also to take into consideration is the amount of competition in the field of law and its building every year and looking at the statistics of those that actually get whats called a 'training contract' after completing their law degree are just unbelievable....like there are just not enough training contracts for those that complete their law degree.

Know enough of the negatives and talk of hard work. Law is a very interesting subject and there are loads of different modules to take after your first year of uni....iw ont say there 'fun' but atleast interesting and classes are a bit more enthusiastic about them, for example 'family law' ...im not taking it but iv heard its a laugh and really interesting.

But yh if law is something you want to do, then go for it. Best way to start is taking law at a levels which will give you a good feel for what the subject is all about and hopefully as part of your course you will learn the route of becoming a solicitor or whatever you want to do after your law degree.

At a levels you (if its still the same..should be) will be studying in your first year, criminal law and tort, mainly the tort of negligence, statutory interpretation and the legal proffession....first year is actually really interesting and im sure you will enjoy just hope your teacher shares the enthusiasm for the subject...i had a great teacher for law in my first year of college Biggrin

second year will also be criminal law like offences against the persons act, murder and manslaughter, trespass....you'l study other modules but u wont have to answer them all in the exams.....i found law at college really fun and interesting.

But as you havent started college yet think of all the other wide range of options you have.

Have you considered doing sciences at college, pyhsics, bio, chemistry etc

you'l have loads of choice of courses if you do science or so i have heard....where to begin ....doesnt mean you have to go into medicine theres others ...ermmm dentistry, optometry...and others which dont seem to be crossing my mind at the moment lol.

English may be another good a level ...i took english at a levels....'very' interesting and enjoyeable if you have a thing for that kinda subject be it english language or litreature...that can lead onto ermmm...journalism ...etc should i say...im sure someone else will correct me Smile

i took goverment and politics and would not advise it to anyone and im sure feefs can sympathise with me on that.... i found it extremely tedious...well mostly the second year because it was american politics....the first year was UK politics so that benefited me greatly because everything i studied in first year politics came up in first year of uni lol ...so it kind of worked out.....also took psychology but couldnt tell you much about it because ...well il leave it at that lol.

ermmmmm i hope others will add their experiences aswel and inshAllah you'l make a good decision....if you got any questions about law at college or uni just post em up Smile

(forgive me for my awful spelling lol)

Well I had a discussion wit the college I want to go to and they said that if i was good at english, and english was something i wanted to study in college then; the best subject that would go with it would be law.... and since then Ive just wanted to study law...

Why is law a good subject to study with English? because they make you write loads?

No problem Smile

And no i didn't study english...Thank God! Blum 3

Yeh, I think the main reason why English is good with law is because it helps you with the writing skills. Also probably because you can widen your vocabulary or something? :/

History is good cuz it also helps with writing, forming and consistently showing an argument, analysis etc which are important skills for lawyers.

yh it helps.....u have to write loooooads in a level law exams its absurd.

But lawyers dont speak/write english. They rarely use pronouns or punctuation.

its good to have good english skills anyway especially in law where when it comes to commercial law it's all about the wording of the contract and in how little space you can draft a contract which means less loop holes.
