'Experience makes liars of us all'

For those of you who watch Doctor Who will know what I'm talking about.

Had this sentence stuck in my head for a while.

Don't know what to make of it.

What do you think?

i hope not. i wouldnt say "liars". i'd say it's more a case of not saying the whole truth or sying it with a twist. or saying it from a perspective that will not hurt others.

that was quite a "deep" convo wasnt it? the prof was referring to his time in the army and sending kids to die...

"experience makes liars of us all"...hmm.... why wld it? how wld it? what leads to this?

i never intend to become a liar. ever.

Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?

I haven't been keeping up with the Doctor Who episodes at all due to lack of time on my hands, but what did YOU think of it? Tell me what the story line was and why he said it, please?

Its something River kept saying, 'The Doctor lies'.Ofcourse theres a difference between lying and concealing the truth. Which is something they both do a lot. A small difference i know but still theres a difference. Because lets face it, when the Doctor lies there isnt really any malice intent behind it but because of what he knows. Because there are some questions that are better left unanswered.

Whereas in this episode 'Journey to the centre of the TARDIS' the Doctor lies repeatedly. About the countdown, about the monsters etc. Whereas before it was all done in a whimsical manner. But here we get a glimpse of the darker side of the Doctor. The Doctor said 'Secrets keep us safe' which describes everything thats wrong with the Doctor as a character and perhaps even goes back to his btw comment in "The Rings of Akhaten" that he was once a father but neglects to mention that it was of what the Doctor had to do to end the Time War that he lost them. Secrets and lies. So where his secrets may keep people safe, perhaps he believes Clara's secrets however; about how she has existed in different points in time could mean danger. Its also possible thats why the TARDIS doesnt like her. And ofcourse its all about his real name. Something Clara finds out at the end. A build up to the season finale.

But for the moment, id guess that the Doctors experiences, his knowledge, his secrets are beginning to burden him to the point where he has to lie. The lines between half truths and untruths is becoming blurred.
