Chapter Two: Why should loving and hating be for Allah’s sake Alone?

(why should you love what Allah, He who created you and gave you all you’ve got, (and that includes the sight you using to read this, the fingers you’re using to scroll down, the brain to work the computer and having ended up on this page, the money you got for buying the PC/phone you’re using to read this, the house and seat you’re in/on while reading this)loves and not love what the celebrity-who-doesnt-know-you-exist loves.) <--not part of the book, just a personal touch.

1) From the completion of a person’s love for his lord and for the messenger of Allah (pbuh) is that he loves that which Allah loves.

do i need say more?

2) Allah, the one free of all defects and the most high, through His mercy, gathered the hearts of the believers upon obedience to Him, and united them upon the way (manhaj) which He prescribed, therefore He, the one free from all imperfections, deserves to be thanked for this great favour, so that one loves for His sake alone and clings onto His firm rope

^^nice long title, let me try and summarize/simplify this for you.

This is really talking about how the tribes of Arabia use to hate on each other and fight until they couldn’t remember what they were fighting about. And then Allah (subhanahou wata’ala) send His messenger (pbuh) and made the Arab people become a united, strong force/nation.

Here the Sheykh mentions a quranic ayah that I will repeat.

"And if they intend to deceive you, then verily, Allah is All-
Sufficient for you. He it is who has supported you with His
Help and with the believers. And He has united their (the
believer's) hearts. If you had spent all that is in the
earth, you could not have united their hearts, but Allah has
united them. Certainly He is All-Mighty, All-Wise. O Prophet
(Muhammad SAAW) Allah is sufficient for you and for the
believers who follow you." (al-Anfaal {8}: 62-64)

Then it becomes more general (as people like to say, “ohh this is for that time and those people, this doesn’t involve us”) this ayah:

"And hold fast, all of you together, to the Rope of Allah, and
be not divided among yourselves, and remember Allah's favour
upon you, for you were enemies one to another, but He joined
your hearts together, so that, by His Grace, you became
brothers, and you were on the brink of a pit of Fire, and He
saved you from it. Thus Allah makes His Signs clear to you,
that you may be guided." (Aal-'Imraan {3}: 103)

So this is saying that clinging on to the “rope” of Allah will lead to success as other reasons for joining together will only lead to separation and fights and accusing each other for our misfortunes (but I think im going into point three here..)

3) The Deen prescribed by Allah, the One free from all imperfections, alone is that which will set the feet firmly, bind the hearts and bring together upon the word of Tawheed, since it is the way to unity. Whereas the shortlived wordly affairs, personal ambitions, worldy interests and matters relating to ownership of land will only impede and not cause union, cause conflict and not harmony, and will cause disunity and not reconciliation

(another massively long title, I don’t want you to have to read every paragraph of this article a few thousands time, sorry guys…talk about the harsh journey of seeking knowledge..)
So this is saying that Loving each other for the sake of Allah will mean unity in the ummah. Unlike dunya issues which just cause arguments because of all the individualism going on these days)

"And verily, this is My Straight Path, so follow it, and follow not (other) paths, for they will separate you from His Path. This He has ordained for you that you may attain piety." (al-An'aam {6}:153)

This ayah of the Quran just proves the point made above. (I love the way its so easy to finda simple ayah which just summarize your point beautifully, at times like this I think “isn’t Allah just SO awesome?)
And of course on judgement day, having bad friends or friends for the wrong reasons is just going to be trouble.

"And (remember) the Day when the wrongdoer will bite at his hands, he will say: 'Oh! Would that I had taken a path with the Messenger (Muhammad SAAW). Ah! Woe to me! Would that I had never taken so-and-so as a friend! He indeed led me astray from the Reminder (the Qur'an) after it had come to me. And Satan is ever a deserter to man in the hour of need."
(al-Furqaan {25}:27-29)

Let’s not try and find that above part out for ourselves…
