Got a lot of books on my book shelf. My favourite book is Godfather by Mario Puzer. Its quite lenghty but if you're interested in a book you don't really notice.

I actually saw the movie before but like the book a whole lot more, it is a lot more detailed as it goes into the background of all the character someting you don't get in the movie.

Benjamin Zaphaniah is a really good author as well but his books only appealed to me when i was about 12 or 13, but its good that he got me into books at a young age. I liked Face and Gangsta Rap by him. I also find his poetry deep aswell, his main influence was Tupac which is probably why his books and poems appeal to the youth especially boys so much.

Yeh i read it, its a girls book though. My sister loves it-she told me 2 read it, i read it but didnt really enjoy it. He's a good author too-i rate him for writing the book from a girls perspective.

It was just like a bollywood film to me which i don't rally like, but i can see why girls like it.

some of my favourites are 'snow falling on cedars' 'heart of darkness' and recently i read this book called 'a little piece of land' about a group of boys growing up in palestine surrounded by the Israeli tanks and shootings....really makes you think...

p.s. i also did eng lit + eng lang A levels....lol we'v got quite a few english lovers!

I love reading books too coz i learn a lot from them. At the moment im reading Sirat ul Rasool by Professor Dr Muhammad Tahir ul Qadri.

I read it before i go to bed and also im studying it's refrences when im free, it's really interesting and so far ive learnt a lot.

You doing English A-level? I jus finished my A-levels, I've done English aswell but literature not language. I didn't really want to do English but its a really good A-level to have-It really works in your favour when finding a high paying job.

Btw, what book did you study for english? In my AS year I studied persuasion...Bored the **** out of me! I have to say english literature is a really feminine subject. There was only about 3 boys in my class including me. We just sat dumbfounded when our teacher went on and on about the social context as it was only related to women, I got a D in my first year so maybe i should've contributed more to discussions relating to exactly why women wrote books, why they weren't married, why their status was so low...

I've come across 1942, but none of my english teachers mentioned it nor did it come up in my literature course. I just found out about whilst watching a TV programme. They highlighted the fact that the idea of Big Brother originated from a book.

i thought i'd reply to this post of yours in the books thread, now that we've got one.

I did English Literature at A-level too, it was good fun. i dont think its necessarily a girly subject though, mayb the books u did were written by women or something but i dont think the subject itself is 'girly' as such - there was an equal number of girls and guys in my class.
Btw, dont go looking for a book called "1942" coz u wont find it, lol! It's "1984" by George Orwell.

'Islamic Concept of Intermediation' by Sheikh-ul-Islam Dr. Muhammed Tahir-ul-Qadri is an excellent and very handy book to keep with you.
It explains that Intermediation is encouraged really well by quoting Hadith and Quran

I love readin books but unfortunately lately I have not had time been very busy, but i do remember readin few weeks back a book on the life of sahaba’s it was really interesting, it had diff. views as to who were sahaba’s (i have always thought its those who have seen the Holy Prophet which is the main opinion) but it could be those who have been very close to the Holy Prophet and have learnt from him and not only those who have seen Holy Prophet (saw), opinions vary..

Thanks...his sayings are available in the internet....and almost every book I have quotes Him.

I thought since he's such a significant figure, especially for the Shia's there must be a book consisting of His sayings?

I am still reading Secret of Secret , seem a really good read, but it too hot to read at the moment. I got a whole bunch of books I plan to buy for the winter, plan to build a massive library of wide ranging books, I think I got a good blend at the moment. Just brought a bio of Genghis Khan which also seem a good read as well as Art of War. Reading is the best way to understand everything we have before us, especially history as reading about the past, make us understand better what is require to be a success in the future.

my favourite part of the book secret of secrets was readin the short summary of shaykh abdul qadar jilani (ra) life and i am gona get the full life of shaykh qadar jilani (ra) titled "necklaces of gems"..that book just shows the amazin status of shaykh abdul qadar jilani (ra).

This thread reminds me, there was so much reading I planned to get through this summer, both religious and secular. But now the hols are almost over and I've spent all my time on the Revival. :roll:
