I find sunnipath most inconsistent or problematic - citation of classical scholars on a topic like this is abundant, but on the question of forced sex with one's wife as per discussions on another thread, such citations become like water in the desert...

Whatever truth is, it is not inconsistent...

No it's not allowed, it's an abolished practice. Shi'a practice it because they choose to ignore the evidences against it. There's no grey issue on this matter, may be on others not on this one. Regardless of what sunnipath say, which may be inconsistent because every scholar there may take different view on certain issues where theres flexibility, that does not mean they are unreliable, but there is no flexibility on the issue of mu'ta. it's either Nikah marriage in islam today, or nothing. But if a person is shi'a obviously they take a different view

anon1 questioned sunnipath because I linked to an article there where the scholars said that marital rape was wrong. It is pretty unrelated to this topic, but due to the scholars there not ageeing with her view, she is not too happy with the "consistency" of sunnipath and finds it problematic to make them match her views.

But that is about a different issue really and the sunnipath link is also categorical in saying that mu'tah is not allowed.

The idea they use is that marriage in itself is consent, so how can what happens between husband and wife be non consential? but lets leave that is the other issue where it is bundled with the idea that husbands own their wives...
