There are many things that are unseen in this world, if I asked you what they were, you could quite easily name a few – the air, gravity, our voices, but what about something unseen that exists only if you know where to look for it or perhaps, unseen because they’re unknown.

I think that one of the main rules in life is to question everything. What I mean is, if you’re at school, university, work (for those of you who do work) or even hanging out with your friends and you don’t understand something, ask - even if it means that everyone will laugh at you. Because at the end of it, the day you ask, is the day you’ll know.

Hopefully once you’re in the habit of not accepting everything blindly, interesting answers will emerge, bringing you out of the darkness and into the light.

The Prophet Muhammad (saas) said:
"If anyone travels on a road in search of knowledge, God will cause him to travel on one of the roads of Paradise. The angels will lower their wings in their great pleasure with one who seeks knowledge. The inhabitants of the heavens and the Earth and (even) the fish in the deep waters will ask forgiveness for the learned man’’

Ok enough rambling, what am I talking about? Let me rewind.

I was sitting, drinking my mocha (and eyeing my double chocolate muffin eagerly) talking to one of my friends from way back during my school years (ok it’s not that long but still!)

Anyway we started to have a conversation about how we had changed from our days in school to now and how our focuses had obviously changed with us. This swiftly moved on to the pair of us discussing religion, life, politics (don’t yawn yet!) and of course our place in society. Tangled into this conversation (somewhere), the following statement was said to me:

‘George Bush and Barack Obama are related’

NO WAY! I nearly choked on my double chocolate muffin.
Now when the whole election thing (for Obama as President) was going on, I too, was part of the Facebook craze of sending to my friends, those little cyber badges with ‘Vote Obama’ plastered across it. Not to mention the auburn coloured stamps with Obama’s smiling face in the midst (remember them?) Now this was mainly because everyone, everywhere (not only America), needed (and wanted!) a change from old Georgy and Obama seemed to fit this profile pretty easily.

So when I was told they were related, it shocked me just a little, teeny tiny bit (my image of Obama as a gallant hero was screeched to a halt). I’m sure they didn’t mention that they were related at the time, hmm.

Anyway being a slight sceptic of these weird genealogy lines (family tree/bloodlines) I did some research that evening, mostly because it seemed to be a crazy concept and I didn’t want to rely on someone else’s findings even if it was my friend (yes I know it’s kinda stubborn).

At any rate, it is alas, TRUE! Researchers at the New England Historic Genealogical Society actually did the background research! Plus it’s even confirmed by the BBC and The Guardian, or if not these then another hundred, other websites!

So indeed, Bush and Obama are related. Distantly – 11th cousins to be exact, but related all the same! And wait, there’s more!

Not only are the two presidents related to each other but they’re both related to OTHER Presidents including George H.W. Bush (old Georgy’s father), Gerald Ford, Lyndon Johnson, Harry S. Truman, James Madison and Abraham Lincoln (everyone has heard of him right?), not to mention British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill!

(Ok that, for me, is one hell of a lot of powerful people. I think I need to lie down now.)

And singers Madonna and Celine Dion…

(Ok come on, be serious please!)

AND Hollywood’s Oceans Eleven star BRAD PITT and Tomb Raider star ANGELINA JOLIE

(WHAT?! ARE YOU CRAZY?)

No. They ARE all RELATED!

(Man, it’s a crazy world!)

Definitely.

Ok so I’ve given you a list of people all related to one another but what’s the point of it? Well to be honest, when I found out about it, I thought the same thing. But then I concluded that it was too big of a coincidence (usually I’m sceptic of these ‘theories’, conspiracy or otherwise but this intrigued me to the fullest) and I wondered if Obama’s presidential career was due to his promised polices or purely down to his blue blood?

Interesting.

I began to think, what if…

The grand ‘what if’ led me to find something that personally I think is remarkable – it really opened my eyes and held them there. (No kidding!)

Now I don’t want to ruin anything for you because all I really aimed to do is just put the idea out there. But I will say this: Perhaps (I repeat perhaps!) these genealogy lines mean something, perhaps things in society aren’t as clear cut as they seem, and perhaps there is something else unknown to the masses out there.

However – don’t take my word for it; why not take some time out to do a little digging yourself?

“The example of guidance and knowledge with which Allah has sent me is like abundant rain falling on the earth, some of which was fertile soil that absorbed rain water and brought forth vegetation and grass in abundance. (And) another portion of it was hard and held the rain water and Allah benefited the people with it and they utilized it for drinking, making their animals drink from it and for irrigation of the land for cultivation. (And) a portion of it was barren which could neither hold the water nor bring forth vegetation (then that land gave no benefits).
