Shocking Statistics on Muslims’ Poor Performance

Shocking Statistics on Muslims’ Poor Performance

“In 2003-2004, almost a third (31 per cent) of Muslims of working age in Great Britain had no qualifications – the highest proportion for any religious group. They are also the least likely to have degrees (or equivalent qualifications).” ( - published on 11 October 2004)

The statistics clearly illustrate that Muslims are severely underachieving in education compared to their counterparts and that we urgently need to devise strategies to reverse the trend. Muslim school governors are grossly under-represented due to the lack of concern in Muslim communities. They can serve as a voice for the Muslim community, and highlight issues which are particularly important and affect Muslim children directly, such as, the enhancement of academic achievement, provision of halal food, and the importance of prayer facilities etc.

School governors do not need to be parents, anyone over 18 years of age can be a governor. The Association of Muslim Governors (AMG) has been established to support Muslim children in the mainstream education systems by increasing the number of Muslim governors in schools, and increasing awareness of the importance of education within the Muslim community. AMG has already successfully doubled the number of Muslim governors in the London borough of Newham.

Why not become a governor and join us in raising the educational achievements of future generations?
