Afghanistan may have more than a trillion dollars worth of untapped mineral deposits, a spokesman for the ministry of mines has suggested.
A joint team from the Pentagon, US Geological Service and USAID has calculated Afghanistan's mineral deposits are worth at least $900bn.
Geological surveys discovered large quantities of iron and copper as well as valuable deposits of lithium.
But questions are being asked about the timing of the release of information.

And here was me thinking these nice freedom loving Americans and Brits were there to spread democracy out of the goodness of their hearts. Better not do anything to challenge them, that would be naughty - let's just send some sticky plasters - they'll sort out everything.
Afghanistan isn't Gaza.
Besides, before Osama put his foot into it, The Taliban were fast on their way to becoming a blessed state by the US - they had even had sent their delegations to Texas for negotiations etc.
