Some time ago I started a thread up regarding Deeyah…this so called Muslim Madonna who is often seen surrounded by three huge bodyguards, to protect her from people spitting on her, calling her a ***** blinding her with pepper spray, describing in detail how they’re going to cut her up bit by bit and leave her bleeding to death like the dirty, filthy pig they say she is.
I did kinda sympathise with her….its true that she didn’t ever make references to her faith or being a Muslim….and whilst everyone would agree that she is in the wrong violent/physical/verbal attacks on her were NOT justified at all.
In an interview she once said “The thing is, I’ve never put myself forward as a Muslim. Religion is something I don’t advertise” says Deeyah.
The other day I was in my friend’s house and she had saved Deeyah’s latest song on her computer for me to watch.
It was a very dodgy music video… but what struck me was the bit in the end when Deeyah is shown wearing a long, loose black Jilbaab and Niqab….and is seen dropping it to the ground to reveal a bikini top and a sarong….
Isn’t that just fully taking the mick?
She is also seen dancing with black guys who are wearing the Niqab?!
I’m not completely sure what message she’s trying to convey…but it’s obvious that she’s trying to make a stand against something.
There’s a rapper in the song who threatens to “shoot the Muslims who hate on her”.
It’s obvious that she’s trying to “get back” at all those people who make her life hell…. But what kind of logic is that? I can’t help but think that after this video she’s going to receive even more grief.
Has anyone seen or heard about the video?

I don't know who this deeyah person is, but i did a bit of searching online this is what i think:
The mainstream music industry is cheap. You'll notice the most successful artists are those not just with the wonderful lyrics but those willing to go without clothing at the drop of a hat. I mean britney spears ain't exactly an oil painting. From wht i remember of her..her music isn't brilliant. It's just catchy and corny enough to attract 12 yr old girls and perverted 35 plus men. She has done well because right from the start she was willing to sexualise herself, and go next to nude when ever more sales were needed.
Madonna is prob still the most successful female artist in the world. But that's because she has the talent to write music and the talent to strip aswell.
So if this so called muslim madonna wants to follow in their footsteps in the name of "expressing herself" she shouldn't cry when she gets abused. She's not a victim, she doesn't get my sympathy at all. She's a grown woman who was well aware of the possible backlash she would get from the muslim community. In a religion which highly prizes modesty she was "perceived" to be publicly mocking these values.
To defend her stance on using "niqabs" in her video is absolutely disgusting!. How can anyone claim she used the niqab for revenge. So she sexualised, and mocked the niqab our mother Aisha (ra) wore, and many women still choose to wear, in the name of "revenge"? Does she respect ppl? Why should she get my respect if she's showing Zero respect for my faith? No one is asking her to believe in it or follow it, but have some respect. To me it seems like she is using Islam as a publicity stunt. All the backlash and anger muslims are venting is ironically helping her publicity campaigns. Makes me wonder if she did it on purpose?:

P.S I found out she's of afghan/pakistani/persian decent. I don't think that makes her a muslim by default.
Also the cross she wears doesn't make her a confused Christian either. Many ppl wear the cross as a fashion accessory. The fact that she wears it in sultry poses, probably shows she cares little for religion, coz she sure ain't no nun. I remember from the days of jahiliyah madonna wore a cross in this same manner and received lot of backlash from orthodox christians. More than likely miss deeyah is copying her idol.

btw I think it was my (very liberal/Marxist) friend who pointed out that although the right to bear arms applies to a militia, the individual states decide what is or isn't a militia. If thats true a constitutional ammendment wouldn't be needed, the individual state could just legislate or State supreme court could just decide what a militia is. I could always be wrong.

Hard to explain... in some parts of the country if you are a male you join the NRA.
Especially down South, Sunday usually means getting up early, going hunting with your father, going to church and then a walk in the park later on in the day with your particular sweetheart.
