Surely its Ramadan 1429, no?
Ramadan 2008 won't be for almost 600 years.
Also, my feelings for the month aren't put adequately into one of the choices.

This thread has just reminded me that i created a similar thread but what with all the problems that were going on and moving hosts i think it got deleted oh well.
These 15 and half hour fasts are a killer. Ive never really felt the hunger when i have previously fasted but this year i dont know whats changed, i get really peckish earlier on in the day.
Anyway yeah im looking forward to fasting. Its easier to make change and stick with it.

Its recommended NOT to fast when on a long journey, right?
Then how come on the plane to Jeddah they had Iftar last year?
I've just booked my flight to Damascus, and I realised that because it is from 10am (UK time) to 5pm (Syrian time), they don't need to provide any food or drink.
Crafty!

It is about convenience. If the fast would be too inconvenient, there is an option to not keep the fast. Probably was essential for travel in hot climes of that age.
I did an iftar on the plane last year - I simply felt that using then convenience excuse was abusing it as all I would be doing is stepping onto an airplane.
That went pretty well. The next day however... plane landed bang on sehri time, so no food. In the midstop in Libya we had been herded away from the shops and any sign of water too... I kept that fast but would not have if I knew beforehand how tough it was to be.
(What made it tougher was we got lost in Makkah, and we were walking for over an hour just before midday trying to locate out hotel...)

As for Ramadan itself, I am normally slightly vary but this year, I am more or less indifferent.

I dont think there is like a complete ban on not fasting while travelling. I think the reason they say that you shouldnt is because it might be a bit too much for the person.
You can buy food from the airport and take it onto the plane or the alternative is to buy it when your own the plane. On short journeys they dont even provide a blanket or headphones anymore!

Im indifferent to it this year.
Theres just too much going on for me to be able to fully appreciate it this time round.

I am excited about Ramadhan, there is soo much to be blessed with from this month.
I just feel like i'm losing the closeness I had with Allah (swt) and the Holy Prophet which is really scary, I hope this month will make this bond stronger and ever lasting.

I'm not getting thrills about it, but I'm just looking forward to another Ramadan, should be interesting.
Chin up, mate! Life's too short.

^^^ lol thanks
I so thought ramzaan was gonna start today. Molvi has declared it for tomorrow (dont know how when hes not even seen the moon  ). I doubt anyone will be able to see the moon anyway (it was misty this morning and now its raining). Dont you just love the British weather!

The poast week, I found it too stuffy, so the rain today is welcome at least from me.
ofcourse, all that can possibly be blamed on Oldham Council/United Utilities who have still not satisfactorily unblocked the drains on our street... after promising to have it done within 4 hours... about a month ago.

(Naz: Ur welcome! )
Lots of people are doing Taraweeh tonight, so:
Where do you do it? home or mosque?
8 or 20?
Does your mosque do fast(Surah fatiha in one breath) taraweeh or slow(like in the haram)?
and do you watch the Taraweeh from Masjid-al-Haram (like on Islam Channel)?

Those who danced were thought to be quite insane, by those who couldn't hear the music...
Ramadan Mubarak guys.
May Allah shower His choiciest blessings, divine forgiveness and infinite mercy upon you in this blessed month, Ameen! My warmest wishes and du'as to you and your loved ones.
May Allah shine sweet faith upon you this day and times beyond. May your heart be enriched with peace, and may your home be blessed always. Ameen.
Everyone at my house has been winging how stuffy and hot its been the last couple of days. Im not feeling it. I was wearing a jumper yesterday  .
I heard Oldham council is a very caring council. One of my clients told me that Oldham council paid for a new roof for his mates (who lives in Oldham) house. Our council stopped doing hosuing grants 5 years ago.
Our mosque does not allow women in so pray at home. No one prays taraweeh at my house except me. This year i thought thats it im putting my foot down. Ive been nagging everyone and ive finally managed to gather some troops. My dads being difficult and one of my brothers doesnt fast let alone pray so im not bothering with him.
I asked my dad about taraweeh last year weather your suppose to read 8 or 20 and his reply was, "we are sunnis and sunnis read 20."
@Funzo - i pretty sure the molvi at our mosque doesnt know what a computer is let alone know how to use one.
