Young, free and single
By Showkat Ali
It's hard being young, free and single
So much freedom and choice to mingle
With the opposite sex
So many choices and stress
Regarding who to choose
Chill and spend time with
More difficult than what to wear
Over twenty on my phone list
Many more I desire every day
Who I just can’t resist
Giving the once over
As they pass me on the street
Gyrating their bodies
And catching my fancy
So many of the opposite gender
To mix with
Talk, flirt and date
That's the way it goes
Changing partners every other week
No need to chase and seek
People nowadays quite up front and daring
See them on the tube and street
Staring and not acting discreet
Willing to talk to strangers
Don't care if their parents know
Or they get a bad reputation
Threats of forced marriage no longer work
With the younger generation
Who are experiencing the joys of liberation?
Sexual freedom and abortion
Experimentation and rebellion
Darkening the family name
Nowadays, aint no such thing as shame
Acting like they are bad
Following the hip-hop culture
In dress and behaviour
Words of patois and rap
Needing a good slap
To their ideas and actions
But they don't care
Because they are young free and single
Following the society
And latest trends
From bollywood
And the western culture
Far from Islam
But that's cool
Need an excuse to act like fools
Life is short
And so much to do
Being careful not to get caught
By parents and family
Time flies
And the angel of death arrives
Unexpectedly
So its time to think
Before you chase women and drink
Yourself to oblivion
Face what's obvious
Whilst acting like the kuffar
But still retaining your Iman
Is it enough to be Muslim
And yet you follow the way of the shaytan
With intentions
To change when you get married
And have kids
Wife to cover
Whilst now she don’t bother
Both of you to make Hajj
But first you must learn the fatiha
And other surahs
And forget the song lyrics
Which you both memorised
Whilst dancing half naked in a club
May your wish come true?
At least you haven't forgotten completely
That you may be young, free and single
But your life and soul belongs to Allah the almighty
And what you're doing now
Is just to fit in and show
That you're not boring and sad
wah wah wah kia shairi lol
Very meaningful words and also very true. The young generation are way out of control, too busy trying to copy the non believers that they have lost sight of what is really important, Islam. They all need a slap and i thik i should be the one to give it to them

Can we have a single showkat poetry topic please?
Not gonna comment on the comment as poetry does have a poetic licence...
"For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens 'as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone'" - David Cameron, UK Prime Minister. 13 May 2015.
Each poem is a seperate topic. Showkat uses poetry to start his topics.
I think people feel ashamed when they read Showkat's poems, as they know there is truth in them.
He who sacrifices his conscience to ambition, burns a picture to obtain the ashes!
yeah. whatever.
Either way there is hardly ever any discussion on the topic.
Just an opinion I was sharing.

His posts too long... cant be bothered to read the whole thing...
need to keep them short...
Back in BLACK
heh.
I think it is more for the connoisseurs of poetry. That don't include me. hence me "request".

only for so long
The Lover is ever drunk with love;
He is free, he is mad,
He dances with ecstasy and delight.
Caught by our own thoughts,
We worry about every little thing,
But once we get drunk on that love,
Whatever will be, will be.

I would love to get married, part of me can't wait, and I think I've found the perfect lady (insha'Allah). However, another part of me is kinda glad our parents our making us wait for a bit before we can tie the knot. I enjoy the freedom, and I love going on holiday with my friends because it is SOOO much fun. So although there are certain 'frustrations' to being single, I'm happy for it to go on for about another year. At the moment it seems quite possible the wedding will be next summer (insha'Allah). So it looks as though I've got one year of being Young, Free and Single before I become Old, Busy and Married!
Don't just do something! Stand there.
when ur single
u only have to look out for number 1
u can go out without worrying about the dinner
u can take ur time and not have to worry about kids
u can go where u want cos no one depends on u
u can be moody, sarcy and angry whenever u want
u can spend on whatever u want cos u dont have to watch ur pennies for others
u can wear what u want cos u dont have to please anyone
u can get up when u want
and go to sleep when u want cos no ones relies on u
so whats the rush when it comes to marraige?
Obviously those are the perks, but theres only so long you can live for yourself only. Perks for marriage too
