Just because the term "Palestinian" seems to be new doesn't mean the people didn't exist. Well, I sort of agree with you and I sort of disagree. (since I know the point you're trying to make) After the bar Kokbha revolt in 135AD the Roman Empire expelled Jews from the province of Judea, and abslolutely forbid Jews from entering the city of Jerusalem. The temple had already been destroyed in 70AD, and after the Bar Kokbha revolt most of Jerusalem had been destroyed and rebuilt into a Roman city. Judea was renamed Syria-Palastina and Jerusalem was renamed Aelia Capitiolina. Jews were forbidden to enter this city during the remainder of the Roman Empire's reign. And most of Judea's Jews fled the region settling in other various parts of the Empire and outside the Empire.

However some Jews did remain, these being Jews of the new sect of Judaism who believed the Messiah had already come...ie: Jewish Christians. They refused to take part in the revolt. So Jewish Christians were not hunted down by Rome during these events in Judea. So yes, a small amount of Jews have been living in the land of Palestine for the last 2000 years. Over time these Jewish Christians intermarried with other locals, Syrians mainly. So yeah, in a sense Jews have maintained a presense there all this time, but probably not in the way most televangelists assume. Once Rome became a Christian Empire, Jews were once again allowed to enter Jerusalem, and some of them did. However the vast majority of Jews remained in the Diaspora, which over time spread mainly to Europe up until the turn of the last century.

If "Israel" was founded in 1312BC, then how can it have been the capital of the Jews for 3,300 years when Jerusalem ceased to exist for roughly 300 years? And for the last 2000 years it has been totally unimportant to Judaism. You should really read some of the stuff from the Pharisees/Rabbis after the destruction of the temple, as well read from Hassidic/Orthodox Judaism and theology. Its actually very interesting. You'll see that the 2 or 3 centuries after the destruction of the temple the Rabbis underwent a hard and long process of figuring out how Judaism could continue without the temple and Jerusalem. By the time Rome became a Christian Empire, Judaism was no longer concerned with jerusalem as the "present" capital of the Jews because Jerusalem is only important if the temple exists. And since their theology evolved into a non sacrificial rite, no temple meant no need of Jerusalem. The reason Jerusalem remained important was only for 2 reasons, one out of historical remembrance and mourning of the loss of their historic temple, and two out of hopes that when the Messiah comes he would regather his people into the Holy City. This is why much of Ultra Orthodox Judaism is against modern day Israel, because secular forces are trying to usurp the Messiah's authority and reconstitute the Jewish Kingdom BEFORE the Messiah comes. Up until the mid 1800's ALL of Judaism held this belief, until the founding of Zionism.

Like many Americans you're assuming that since they all "look Arab" they must all "be" Arabs. This is simply not true. While after the Arab conquest of the middle east during the rise of Islam, many indegenious people were overrun by the Arab population in all those countries you're talking about, there are still "non-arabs" living there. There are still Syrians in Syria, Egyptians in Egypt, Lebanese in lebanon, and Palestinians in Palestine. Why should the Palestinian people have been forced to assimilate into another culture, region, enthicity when there is nothing wrong with being a Palestinian? Some of the countries with Arab majorities don't want the Palestinian people anymore than the Israelis do. Americans make it sound like Palestinians were actually Arabs living on Israel's land before Israel got there, but Palestinians are not neccessarily "Arabs"....if anything, Palestinians are what EVERYONE will be someday on earth, a mix of many different ethnicities, except the Palestinians have been living there for a millenia and no one in the middle east wants them. Again, just because you see a man in a long black robe, with a black beard and funny hat, doesn't mean he's an Arab Muslim....he could be a Palestinian Christian priest.

Sometimes. Sometimes not! A few years ago the IDF attacked the Church of the Nativity and it was under seige for weeks during the Christmas feast. (because the Church was giving sanctuary to a group of "terrorists") In 1990 during Holy Week, Jewish settlers moved into the Christian quarter of jerusalem, covered Christian symbols with Israeli flags. When the Christians tried to remove the flags, the IDF shot tear gas into the crowd (during the procession with the cross on Holy Thursday night) which forced the closing of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, the holiest site in Christendom closed at Easter for the first time since it was built in the 4th century. (do a search on the net for "St John's Hospice incident" I'm sure you'll find a few things.)

A fair fight would be one which does not involve the use of the fourth largest (American backed) army in the world killing children throwing stones (or not as the case may be it doesn't seem to matter, they just kill them anyway).

The British and U.N. did "give" a homeland to the jews, which happened to be in Palestine. The jews were just not happy with their portion of Palestinian land so decided, with the help of the U.S. and the three terrorist organisations that I have mentioned above, to take as much as they wanted.
