1)INDO-PAK MUSLIM MARRIAGE EVENT

Date: Sunday 14th August 2005
Time: 11am - 3pm
Venue: Froud Centre, 1 Toronto Avenue, Manor Park, London, E12 5JF

Invited guests: Mufti Barkatulla, Rifat Lodhi, Najma Ebrahim.

Looking for a suitable spouse is a difficulty many Muslims have
been facing in the UK. This problem has become especially worrying
in recent years with rising divorce rates, lack of family contacts,
fear of differences, career pressures and an ongoing struggle to
live as Muslims by striking a healthy balance between cultural
and contextual values.

Given the particular preferences, needs, cultural background and
temperament of Muslims of Pakistani and Northern Indian origin,
a special matrimonial event has been organised for brothers and
sisters who originate from this region of the world. This will
be an opportunity for men and women to meet for the purpose of
marriage in a halal environment. Parents and guardians are
strongly recommended to attend. People of all statuses welcome,
including those who may be divorced. If you are not Pakistani or
Indian but are open to marrying someone who is, and feel you can
realistically deal with the associated cultural issues then you
are also welcome to participate. Since the timing of the event
coincides with Pakistan Independence Day, there will be a short
discussion prior to the meetings on topics such as nationalism,
the caste system, education, taboos against divorced people,
wannabe Bollywood syndrome, etc.

Cost: £10 for participants and £5 for accompanying friends who
are not married. Free entry for mahrams but there should be no
more than 2 people as space is limited. Prior registration is
not required but note that this event is for British citizens,
permanent residents, and their accompanying guardians only.
Random identity checks will be made so please bring some ID.

Date: Wednesday 17th August 2005
Time: 6.30 pm - 8.45 pm
Venue: Room B04, Basement, Birkbeck College, Malet Street, Bloomsbury,
London, WC1E 7HX

A special mid-week matrimonial event for those who may be divorced,
separated or widowed, or are open to marrying someone of these
statuses. All Muslims are welcome to attend regardless of ethnicity
or 'level' of faith and practice. Mahrams are encouraged to attend
and assist where possible. Profiles of brothers and sisters are to
be displayed on the wall and meetings will be arranged at the venue,
insha'Allah. No attendance means no display of profiles.

Prior registration is not necessary, just turn up by 6.30 pm. There
will be a group discussion for about 20-30 minutes, followed by the
meetings. This event is for sincere and serious people only, not
time wasters and people with bad manners. Entry is £5. Mahrams free.

3) BENGALI MUSLIM MARRIAGE EVENT

Date: Sunday 21st August 2005
Time: 11am - 3pm
Venue: Froud Centre, 1 Toronto Avenue, off Romford Road, Manor Park,
London, E12 5JF

Looking for a suitable spouse is a difficulty that many Muslims
have been facing. Despite making up a significant proportion of
the UK's population, experience has shown that Bengalis are less
likely to attend matrimonial events or pursue alternative avenues
of the format that have been arranged so far. There are a number
of social and cultural factors behind this. For this reason, and
following the success of the marriage event held in May, another
event has been organised specifically for Muslims originating
from Bangladesh or West Bengal. This will be an opportunity for
brothers and sisters to meet in a halal environment. Parents,
guardians and other mahrams are strongly encouraged to attend.

People of all statuses are welcome, especially those who are
divorced. There will be a discussion session covering issues
such as living with in-laws, regional restrictions, ageism,
taboos against divorcees, etc.
