VOTING POWER!

It's good to see most of the country coming out and voting. What an election night- it looks like a Hung Parliament since the 70's! The only shock I suppose is Lib Dem's winning so few seats. The Best news of all and the power of voting is the demolition of the BNP nationwide. The country has definitely spoken! The other worthy news is a first ever Green Party MP and Muslim MP Shaid Malik losing his seat. So what now for the country and has it been a good night for the Muslim Community? What are your thoughts on the Election Results and how did you vote?

BNP and UKIP (BNP for the middle-classes) together had 5% of the overall vote. With electoral reform as demanded by the Lib Dems on the table, if proportional representation becomes a reality in any form, the far right may yet gain seats in Parliament.

Depends on the type of reform carried out.

If there is like proportional representation over the whole of the UK on an equal basis, then the BNP would have like 12 seats.

However if the proportional representation is more regional, then the threshold would be higher.

I am not a fan of PR though - it feels LESS representative to me. People do not have to rely on thewir constituents needs and can expect on people outside their constituency to bias the vote in their favour. This can cause them to get arrogant.

More, factoring in independents would cause problems - they are not a "single block" so if 10% of the votes are for indepdents, which one do they go to?
