Assalamu alaikum brothers and sisters.
I have been having a debate with my father, about the heavens and hells.
I believe that there are seven heavens, and eight hells.
However, my father comepletely disagrees with me and says there are eight
Heavens and seven hells.
What should I believe?

i was under the impression tht there were 7 heaven and seven hells.
my reference :
Jahannam:
"Truly Jahannam (the Hellfire) is lying in wait."
[an-Naba, 78: 21]
Latha:
"By no means! For it is Latha (the fire of Hell) burning away right to the skull."
[Ma'arij, 70: 15-16]
Al-Hutamah:
(Crusher which Smashes or Breaks to Pieces):
"By no means! He will certainly be thrown into al-Hutamah. And what will make you understand what al-Hutamah is? It is the fire of Allah, kindled to a blaze, which mounts right to the hearts."
[al Humazah, 104: 4-7]
Sa'eer (the Burning Fire):
"a group in Paradise and a group in Sa'eer."
[ash-Shura, 42: 7]
Saqar:
"Soon will I cast him into Saqar. And what will explain to you what Saqar is? It permits nothing to endure and it leaves nothing alone, darkening and changing the color of man."
[al Muddaththir, 74: 26-29]
Al-Jaheem (The Fierce Fire):
"And al-Jaheem will be brought out before those straying in evil."
[ash-Shu'ara, 26: 91]
Al-Hawiyah (The Pit)
"But he whose scales are light - his home will be a pit. And what will make you understand what that is? (It is) a fire, blazing fiercely."
[al Qar'iah, 101: 8-11]

@ Bilan, How did you get that impression from those sources? :S

OK, I do understand the article, but it says it is 'mentioned' that there are eight heavens.
So it's not really accurate.
Erm, what exactly are you looking for it to be accurate? :S Those are ahadith; they are accurate.

I am talking about the Revivals article. Yes, they do have hadiths, but they do not have one to support their point when they say that it's mentioned to have 8.
[Reported by Imam Al Bukhari and Imam Muslim].
Ibn Abi Hatim narrated from Ibn Abbas that he said: "Paradise has eight gates: a gate for the praying, a gate for the fasting, a gate for those who perform Hajj, a gate for those who perform Umrah, a gate for Mujahideen (those who fight for the sake of Allah) a gate for Al Dhakireen (those remember Allah and supplicate Him) and a gate for Al Shakireen (those who thank Allah)".
-
`Umar relates that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “If anyone of you performs his ablutions for prayer in a thorough manner and then says: ‘I bear witness that there is no God but Allah alone without partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger’ – then the eight gates of heaven will be opened for him to enter through any gate he pleases.
This is an authentic hadîth related in Sahîh Muslim (234), Sunan Abî Dâwûd (169), Sunan Al-Nasâ’î (148), Sunan al-Tirmidhî (55) and Sunan Ibn Mâjah (470).

Huh? For what?
“And verily, Hell is the promised abode for them all. It has seven gates: to each of those gates is a specific class of sinners assigned.”
[Qur'an: al Hijr, 15: 43-44]
I have edited that post, read it again.

well..what about jannatul firdaws?
and what about the thing where the people higher up in jannah will be able to visit those lower down but the one lower down wont be able to come up? (or is this a childhood misconception?)
nyways, why debate over just trivial matters? Hell(S) HURT like..well..HELL
and Heaven is the best, it rules, and is too cool for school. however meany heaven(S) they are.
Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?
This is exactly what I'm talking about. On which level is the Jannatul Firdaus?
It is the highest level.
