There are some points to be taken into consideration when setting out to seek knowledge:
1. Have the correct intention. The Prophet Muhammad(S) said: 'All actions are based on intentions and for every person is what he intends'.
2. Stay away from sins. The story of Imam Shaf'ee is essential. When he complained to his teacher about his weak memory, his teacher advised him to 'leave sins' and not long after he became a renowned figure in Islam.

3. Act upon what you have learnt. It is said 'Knowledge without action is like a load with no carrier'. What benefit is this to anyone? If you can not practise upon your own knowledge, what will others learn from you?
4. Stay away from doubtful foods and as a student of knowledge and most importantly being a Muslim, everything you consume must be Halaal. The prophet Muhammad(S) said to the nearest meaning, 'Leave those foods which do put you in doubt for those foods which do not put you in doubt'.
5. Act upon Mustahab, Sunnah and Nafl acts.
6. Simply be humble to stay away from pride in any form. 'Humility is for the one whom knowledge is learnt'. Adopt a humble attitude towards your teachers and fellow students.
7. Tolerate all hardships, in the way of knowledge with patience. Give you 110% , just to receive a little bit in return. Read up on the lives of the Sahaabah and Taabieen. You'll be surprised at how much they sacrificed for deen.
8. Realise the status of Ilm and know your position as one who seeks it. 'If anyone travels on a road in search of knowledge, Allah will cause him to travel on one of the roads of Paradise. The angels will lower their wings in their great pleasure with one who seeks knowledge. The inhabitants of the heavens and the Earth and (even) the fish in the deep waters will ask forgiveness for the learned man'.
One who is full of Aadaab will be successful. One who is not full of Aadaab will not.
