Saudi women get the vote! Takbeer!

Women in Saudi Arabia are to be given the right to vote and run in future municipal elections, King Abdullah has announced.

He said they would also have the right to be appointed to the consultative Shura Council.

The move was welcomed by activists who have called for greater rights for women in the kingdom, which enforces a strict version of Sunni Islamic law.

The changes will occur after municipal polls on Thursday, the king said.

King Abdullah announced the move in a speech at the opening of the new term of the Shura Council - the formal body advising the king, whose members are all appointed.

Female leaders

I can't remember if I've asked this before but can females be leaders?

The answer is probably no as women have not had a leadership position during the time of the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) and all the Prophets (pbut) were male.

I heard that Benazir Bhutto was an illegitimate leader since women cannot lead men.

"Chinese-made Qur'ans full of errors"

Iranian publishers are complaining that cost-saving plans to print Qur'ans in China have led to an embarrassing number of typographical errors.

The head of Iran's Qur'an oversight office, Ahmad Haji-Sharif, warned consumers that lower-cost Qur'ans may have mistakes in the holy verses. He noted earlier this week that Iranian-produced Qur'ans carry a higher price but have passed a careful inspection.

Officials are now discussing a ban on Chinese-printed Qur'ans.

The Qur'ans in Iran often have both Farsi and the original Arabic. Haji-Sharif didn't say whether the errors prevail in the Arabic or Farsi segments.

#Small deeds that are overlooked#

10 yr cousin comes down to get water for his 13yr old sis (after being already for bed)

me: Aww it's nice of you to come down for your sis

his mum: yeah, he comes all the time for her, she doesn't

me:You should make her come down for you too!

him: well I get sawab (reward) for it anyway

me: Smile aww, nice one! (ok I didn't say exactly that, did a typical paki reaction thing instead Blum 3 )

Hajj is too expensive

Hajj is becoming more and more expensive each year and I just thought it's cuz of inflation. But I've across a view that it might be cuz Saudi wants to commercialise the cities and use the money to just improve the place. Also that it will soon become a monopoly for the richest!

That's a scary thought! How true do you think it is?

I don't really buy it cuz it means people won't be able to perform their duty as a Muslim (would Allah allow that?) also if less people go then the Saudis will stop getting money.

Change yourselves

why is a group of people who claim to be destined for an abode of eternal sucess are miserably unsuccessful in this transient life?
-
we are regarded by the rest of humanity. as the most self-righteous, self-conceited, whinging group of people on the face of the earth because we always blame others for the decadence we find outselves in. The reality is we need to have a proactive approach, we need to energies back into society, we need to change ourselves, because if we can't change ourselves, there's no way we can revolutionise the dunya. If you can't get up for fajr, don't talk about revolutionising the world!
