The Revival magazine- what do you REALLY think?

salaam

with the new revival mag coming out in ramadan i thought its best to get some views on what ppl thought of the mag....

have people read it in the past?

do ppl read it on line?

what did you think of the earlier issues? and what about the last few?

it hasnt been printed for a year or 2 but before that have people seen it out and about?

what do you think works with the revival?

what needs improving?

do you think it tackles the real issue sfacing the youth?

Is it time to deal with more mature issues?

your views/feedback pls

Since most of the Revival audience is female I want he next issue to be totally dominated with women issues. Like a seriously feminine help. Sista to sista... I'll detail the different titles that could be discussed. The guys can have one alllllll dedicated to them. If it makes things even.

And what would be the point of that?

If it aint broken, why fix it. Run things like they were.

NO
The aim should be to bring in more males not to lose more :/
Anyway, the forums are majority female but that doesn't mean the mag readers are...

"How many people find fault in what they're reading and the fault is in their own understanding" Al Mutanabbi

I think it should be broadened a little.

There should be different sections.

Sport

Serious (long) religious articles (for older people)

Jamal and Ali style "easy to read" articles that have a hidden 'subliminal' message for the kids

A puzzle / competition (£1 entry, winner to be announced in the next issue etc)

There should also be a charity section. There are sooooo many charities, doing soooooo many things and we could maybe have 4 charities on 2 pages explaining what they do (and they can make a contribution to the costs of getting the magazine to the printers? - they win too as we reach their target audience via this free publication)

There should be a "getting involved" section too where public can write articles and email them to the editor for editing and appearance in future publications. And also contact details of the 4 charities, and what positions they have available locally for people who want to get involved.

I really liked the issue (can't remember which one it was) where it said that although our culture sweeps stuff under the carpet, it's actually ok to see a councellor (marriage and otherwise)

I think it is not very islamic at all. Too much western ideologies and so called "liberal" muslim thinking. I wouldn't spend a penny on it nor would allow anyone else I know.

you shld maybe point out exactly what you're talking abt? and give constructive criticisms? that might help make it better.

Remember, maybe it didnt mean to sound like that. but from your comment seems you're assuming that this is exactly what it was trying to do.

seeing the bad in everything. what does that say about you?

Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?

or - let's show the Revival Editorial team how it SHOULD be done. Let's write an article that we think should be in the magazine?

Freedom of speech doesn't require constructive criticism. If I think it's trash then I thinks it's trash, and its not my job to fix it.

The bolded bit above, what it says about me?? I know trash when I see it.

If you're not going to give criticism then why waste your precious time on "trash"?

Also, if you're a Muslim, you really should care about and try to improve if you can, something you see that needs improving and would benefit the ummah.

Just getting the message across to the so called intellectuals, I didn't start the thread, just stating what I think as per the Q.

Well for starters you can stop passing your own opinions as islamic rulings.

You know what is really sad, it's when young people who look up to you start taking your personal opinions as islamic shar'i teachings, just because you canvass it in a so called "Islamic" magazine. Modernist islamic view points are a greater threat to our youth than all the non muslim propoganda put together.

OMG, have I been misguided on an issue. Please highlight the "opinion" that was passed off as a ruling so I can be sure not to act upon it.

Thanks

You chose to read the dumb magazine, so now you can figure it out yourself. Wink

I assume you hold no such things as "opinions"?

On the other hand if conservatives look to early Muslims, you would see such things as opinions. Even by the sahabahs. Sometimes they even went with them. Those when occurring with the knowledge of the prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) or in his Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) presence are now known as sunnah.
